As a graduate research assistant at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, I was deeply involved in teaching labs and some lectures in the marine biology and mariculture fields. The courses I taught included Chemistry of Natural Waters, Environmental Science, Aquatic Pathology, and even Genetics. I carry extensive experience in field biology, natural water quality monitoring, and Geographic Information Systems. I have worked extensively in the GIS field for the last 12 years and can teach GIS concepts ranging from basic mapping all the way up to geodatabase design and programming with Python.

I started studying Marine Biology when I was still in the US Navy. It followed me upon discharge and I stuck with it as a career. I have published and presented original research in the aquatic pathology field as part of a graduate degree program in Mariculture. My work experience includes working in resource protection and fisheries biology with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and with Alaska Department of Fish and Game. I was educated in the Gulf of Mexico and Corpus Christi Bay, so I am intimately familiar with the flora and fauna of both. My experiences in Alaska included summer fishery harvest monitoring in the Prince William Sound out of Whittier, Alaska.

GIS is what has allowed me to take my career from field biology into the realm of geospatial analysis and modeling as related to the marine sciences as well as oil & gas and terrestrial ecology. I am currently completing my Master of Science degree in Geospatial Surveying Engineering at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. My GIS experience goes back 12 years to the point where GIS was still in its infancy. I have worked as a GIS Analyst and a Geospatial Database Developer with both private and government entities. I am also certified in the use of Trimble field GPS equipment by the State of Texas.

As a tutor, I can provide a student with diverse experience and knowledge that was learned during the course of many years in the work force. Even during my college years, I was taught that a hands-on approach to learning works very well for students in the sciences and GIS. I would like to offer these experiences and this type of learning to anyone who is willing to learn and maybe even have a little fun while doing so. Caution: you might get dirty.

GIS,

GIS

I have worked in the GIS community for 12 years, serving clients in fields ranging from natural disaster recovery to oil and gas, Federal agencies and the marine sciences. My work experience and education have provided me with a diverse knowledge base in the GIS field. In short, I am a jack-of-all-trades GIS Analyst and Developer. I can do the mapping and analysis while maintaining the ability to jump in and do the geodatabase development and Python scripting if needed.
Python

Python

My first exposure to Python was in an online university class setting as a required course in my Geospatial Surveying Engineering master's program. From there, I took the opportunity to continue to develop my skills on my own. I have used Python bot as a stand-alone language as well as within the ArcGIS environment. My experience with Python coding is far-reaching and can be applied to just about any problem encompassing the need for automation of complex or repetitive processes.
