I am a licensed professional geologist with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in geology. In graduate school, I had a teaching assistantship in which I taught Introductory Geology labs and was the Mineralogy TA. In addition, I assisted professors with undergraduate level classes and led student help sessions. My masters thesis involved scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.
As a professional geologist, I have worked in both the petroleum and environmental fields. In the petroleum field I have worked on exploration teams, as a seismic interpreter, and as a production/development geologist. In the environmental field, I have been a field geologist, a hydrogeologist, an environmental scientist, a project manager, and an operations manager. I have supervised and mentored staff.
I have worked with undergraduate students through teaching classes and tutoring small groups. I have also worked with professional staff as an instructor and a mentor. I enjoy the interaction with others and especially, being helpful in their development. Although I have a strong technical background, my experience in managing and providing leadership has allowed me to see what it takes to be successful.
My degrees and academic background have provided me with knowledge in the areas of geology, earth science, environmental science, astronomy and physical science. My career in two different industries has helped hone this knowledge into technical expertise. Feel free to contact me to ask any questions or to discuss your needs. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
