That moment when a child's eye gleams with the "Aha" moment of understanding...is what drives my passion for teaching. It's why you are here looking for a tutor. There is nothing as wonderful as the confidence a child shows when they start to figure things out on their own. My experience with tutoring dates back to when my first child was in elementary school, he's in high school now that sums about to about 10 years. I was a part of a program that brought tutors and mentors to the schools. The success of the students with weekly exposure was substantial. Imagine that in my experience, I have had students thank me for having the patience to help them understand. However, I think the most powerful words I have heard are "You gave me the confidence I needed." This is what can be achieved through one on one teaching contact. It is my goal to make sure every child learns!I hope that you want to have this goal too.
I am currently a substitute teacher. It gives me the freedom to help where I am needed but also, gives me insight to different ways of teaching and handling student situations. The most common thing that I have noticed is that a child's learning style can easily be overlooked in the classroom atmosphere. This is the part that creates so much frustration for students because it is like trying to fit the square peg in the round hole. Learning style, you ask, "What is this?" It is the way a person learns things some of us learn by touching/doing, others by looking, or even hearing. It can even be a combination and finding the right way for a student that is struggling with understanding takes time. I find it critical to find the right method so the subject can be taught without so much frustration. This is what I do. I find the best way for the subject to be taught to each student/child. If it doesn't work that way I try a different way until we achieve the "Aha". And that is what we are all trying to achieve, right? So sign me up to help teach! I just want to say that Heda is my grandson's tutor and he loves working with her. She has given him so much confidence both last year and this year. Thank you Heda, you have made the struggles with math homework for both him and my daughter disappear, although I can not yet say he loves math he certainly no longer struggles with it and his mom is no longer the enemy LOL. Thank you so much. A very happy granny.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
