University of Louisiana at Lafayette (Secondary Math)
The most important goal for the past 11 years of my teaching career has been that every child will have a better understanding and appreciation for math. I first build a rapport with my students. When students build a relationship with their teachers they are often more involved in the learning process. Once I build a relationship with my students, they will recognize and appreciate that I am an effective teacher who really cares. This is the best reward that I can receive from a former student or parent. Once my students and I establish a virtuous relationship, trust and respect will automatically fit into the equation. My students know that my sincerity is genuine and that I truly believe in their ability to learn.
It is my intention that my students see the benefits of understanding mathematics and what can be done with it outside of school. I accomplish this task by guiding my students to become strong individual learners with constructive criticism and consideration from me. I help students become stronger individual learners by presenting lots of hands-on materials that give them the ability to ask questions and share their opinions and ideas. Incorporating real-world experiences will allow my students to find that same appreciation for math that I have and lead them to a greater understanding and higher performance.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have taught algebra 1 for 10 out of my 11 year career. I enjoy using hands on materials to teach algebra. Algebra 1 has always been my passion because research shows, if a student can pass algebra 1 they are likely to graduate high school.
I taught geometry this school year and my students' test scores were great.
I have taught middle school math for 3 years. I have used pre algebra daily for the past 11 years of teaching. I enjoy teaching the the "why" something works instead of just teaching content.
