About Lauren

Hello! My name is Lauren and I currently teach high school physics and chemistry. I have been teaching for 10 years and during that time, I have taught the following subjects: physical science, biology I, chemistry, physics and human anatomy/physiology (both high school and college levels). I have also tutored algebra I, algebra II, geometry, advanced math, and college physics (algebra-based). During this time, I have been voted Teacher of the Year and nominated for the LEF teacher awards.

I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to personalize the material to the students. I have a love of science and appreciate the challenge of explaining it in a way that students can understand. During my time as a graduate student at UL, I learned various techniques and approaches which help students connect and learn, not only memorize, many of the difficult vocabulary terms and concepts seen in secondary science classes.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

I am qualified to tutor this subject because I have taught human anatomy and physiology for 9 years. Additionally, I have taught a dual enrollment college level human A&P course to high school students for the past 3 years. I also took a semester of medical school human gross anatomy and physiology as part of a program to prepare pre-medical students.

Biology

I am qualified to tutor this subject primarily because I received a bachelors degree in microbiology. Additionally I have taught high school biology for several years. I also received a Recognition of Excellence Award on the biology Praxis subject test, which is given to those scoring in the top 15% of test takers.

Chemistry

I am qualified to tutor this subject primarily because I have taught high school chemistry (regular and honors) for 10 years. I also took 7 chemistry courses in college (general, organic, analytical and biochemistry). Many of my former students attribute their success in college general chemistry to the preparation they received in my class.

Physics

I have taught high school physics (honors and regular) for 10 years. The courses place an emphasis on mechanics and kinematics, with an introduction to special topics (light, electricity, magnetism) at the end of the course. I also took 2 semesters of college physics as part of my degree requirement.

Physiology

I am qualified to tutor this subject because I have taught human anatomy and physiology for 9 years. Additionally, I have taught a dual enrollment college level human A&P course to high school students for the past 3 years. I also took a semester of medical school human gross anatomy and physiology as part of a program to prepare pre-medical students.

very helpful! — Lauren took the time to work all my homework problems that I had missed on old homework. We would work them until I completely understood how to. She explained everything very clearly and taught me shortcuts on how to do some problems! ...
