My name is Leandra (Leann) P. and I have currently moved to the Lafayette, LA area. I am interested in continuing to tutor and teach in this area as I did for many years in Alabama. I moved here because of personal non-job related reasons. I have a valid professional teacher's certificate which can be presented if needed and am qualified in the State of Alabama and gaining Teacher Certification in Louisiana. I taught adult computer education for many years as a contracted employee at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in their Community and Adult Education Program. I have also worked as an Independent Technology Consultant for businesses in several locations. So, most anything to do with Microsoft computer such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. I can assist with and teach very well. In fact, I will also provide online instruction if needed and be available outside of designated tutoring sessions if there is an emergency and I know that often there is when preparing for work and learning for work related reasons.
I have also learned over the years how to teach students of all ages how to learn. There are many different types of multiple intelligence and often our children do not recognize the ways that they learn best. I can offer instruction and general testing and explanation about multiple intelligence and why this could be crucial to your child's education or to your very own. Different people learn differently and we aren't always taught in the way that we learn. In fact, some teachers even teach toward their own multiple intelligence because that is what they are used to and more comfortable with. I can help develop specified strategies and plans for students who need an extra boost in school when it comes to organization and/or self initiated learning. I also teach very important informational and reading strategies along with learning strategies. These strategies may help correct problems in Social Studies or any other subject in which reading and retaining information is required. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Career Development has been an ongoing factor in my last educational position. I have helped develop career training programs, worked in adult and community education and have resources that will also assist when tutoring or assistance is over. I encourage a basic route to career development by assessing likes, dislikes, career goals, and future plans for education. I can assist with development of job skills and test preparation and guide those needing a career development program to the proper resources in the local community and surrounding areas as well.

I am currently serving as reading/literacy interventionist with a focus on phonics. Please note that all students may not learn phonetically and there are other options in this case. However, it is imperative to give phonics a try first and create a good base knowledge of how students do with phonics before introducing other methods of learning to read.
For 15 years I have taught study skills and informational skills to groups of students. I assist students in the understanding of how they learn and how best to understand the questions they are being asked to answer. I also provide students with an optional multiple intelligence test and help them understand the way they learn the best while showing strategies that will assist in their learning.
