To My Potential Clients:
I love learning new things and it's my greatest desire to inspire others to love learning too. That has been my number one reason for wanting to become a teacher. I am an older teacher, in years that is. I obtained my Bachelor of General Studies degree back in 1987. Yet I always wanted to go back to school to get my certification to teach. It wasn't until decades later in my mid-forties that I finally got that opportunity to do so.
I did my student teaching at Edgar Martin Middle School and then was offered to stay and teach fifth grade English Language Arts and Social Studies. I accepted the position and received invaluable experience. Sadly, despite many wonderful moments and falling in love with my students, I realized teaching in public schools just wasn't for me. The horribly long hours were grueling and the lengthy lesson plans left virtually no time to assist my many struggling students. Yet what I discovered along the way was that my favorite times were when I was working either one on one with a student or in small groups. It was an immediate gratification kind of thing because I could see discovery of concepts right before my very eyes. Those moments are truly awesome to me and I want to share that with your child.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I feel I am qualified to teach Elementary (K-6th) because I am a certified middle school teacher. I am an older teacher with years of wisdom and a mother of two grown children. I have taught in the public school system, which gave me invaluable experience.

Certification Middle School English Language Arts/University of Louisiana at Lafayette
My certification is in Middle School Language Arts. Two particular classes, READ 409 and READ 411, were requirements for my certification and focused on phonics and learning to read. I enjoyed both classes, and made an A in each of these classes.
I have a State Certification in Middle School ELA from ULL.
As a high school and college graduate, I have over the years devised sneaky little ways to study, primarily for tests. I have employed diverse strategies myself, and taught many study strategies to my students in the classroom.
