I am very familiar with Word 07, and I feel sure I will be able to assist you with technical writing. Before I retired, I worked in a technical writing position with a nuclear facility in Colorado. After retirement, I moved to Louisiana, and I am teaching English at South Louisiana Community College.
I look forward to meeting you.
General background information follows.
I have taught English and Writing since 1997. Students always bring different backgrounds, experiences, interests and abilities to the classroom, and by studying the personality of each individual, I find ways to cope with and to capture their interests. Mentoring helps to form a warm, supportive atmosphere and establishes a feeling of camaraderie. Students know they are listened to and their thoughts are respected and discussed.
My goal is to help the student communicate the wonderful thoughts that are stored inside his mind. To do this, we start from a solid base of correct grammar and sentence structure and move on to the proper mechanics on constructing essays, paragraphs, and sentences. There are a few well established rules of writing that assist a writer in telling a story or accurately relating facts.
I have tutored college level students in remedial classes; these classes approximate curriculum usually covered in high school English at sophomore, junior, and senior levels.
I have worked with students from other countries of all ages and at all levels:
-foreign students just beginning English where they desperately need to improve their skills to obtain work;
-ESL students preparing to take the TOEFL to be able to attend college;
-college level ESL students who just need to brush up on writing and practice listening and understanding lectures.
I always look forward to meeting new students.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
