I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. In addition to my online teaching experience at the University of Phoenix and lecturing at Tulane University School of Public Health, I am an academic coach with Instructional Connections, and I have E-learning experience with the following formats: Blackboard, Canvas, Desire2Learn, and Moodle.
My background is progressive but pragmatic. I have a doctorate in management, master's in public health, and bachelor's in social science. My academic background, teaching experience, and career as a health and social services researcher and educator have prepared me to serve as a tutor. Over the last decade, I have dedicated much of my time to teaching and developing courses and educational materials for K-12 and online learning.
My philosophy on teaching is quite simple. I believe that students learn better if they enjoy the learning. The environment created in the classroom should be one of a warm, enjoyable learning atmosphere where individuals can develop and learn. I see myself as a disseminator of information that manages the student learning process to allow them to learn what they should know, be able to do what they should be able to do, develop values, and achieve their life and career goals. I believe that students are invaluable resources that require cooperation and collaboration of a tutor to enhance learning. I enjoy engaging students as learners to critically think and master learning objectives. It is important for me as a tutor to encourage students to be creative and independent in dealing with the subject material to formulate their own views. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
