University of New Orleans (Biology)
Asbury Theological Seminary (Master's)
I am a New Orleans native and have been an ordained United Methodist Pastor for the past 25 years. Teaching is one of my gifts. I love to see students of all ages "come alive" when they understand something. I try to help students find the answers and find ways to get at those answer for themselves instead of giving them the answers. I have 25 years experience teaching adults in small groups. I have also tutored math (even though that is not my best subject) years ago and the student went from an "F" to a "B". I taught ESL in one of the towns where I served as pastor.
My undergrad degree is in Biological sciences, with minors in chemistry and psychology.
I took 4 years of High School Spanish and achieved the highest average. I tested out of the whole first year of Spanish in college, so I took the sophomore level classes in my freshman year. I also lived in Honduras for 6 years and attended an all-Spanish school.
I have a Master's in Divinity, so am uniquely qualified to help students understand religion, theology, or other Bible subjects. Because I enjoy literature, spelling, grammar, and writing I feel that I would be a good tutor in those subject, though I have no formal training in that area.
I love to help kids discover new things and learn, so that is why I would be a good tutor for this age group.
I am eager to hear from you and start this learning adventure together. I will travel up to 40 miles for our appointments and look forward to hearing from students of all ages soon. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a Master of Divinity Degree from Asbury Theological seminary, and have completed all but the dissertation for a doctor of ministry degree. I have been an ordained clergy person for 25 years, and a majority of my responsibility was teaching and leading Bible studies and preparing and presenting sermons to help people better understand the Bible.
I have a master's degree and have completed all of the studies required for a doctoral degree but have not completed the dissertation.
