I have been a teacher for three years now, having taught in New Orleans and China. I most recently worked with preschool students teaching leadership skills through the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Before I worked with elementary school students teaching enrichment and fourth grade. During this time I also served as a part time tutor in various subjects, including Spanish, Math, ELA and LEAP prep for learners of all ages. I absolutely love my experiences with teaching young learners because I am always afforded the opportunity to learn and grow with them. I also enjoy that tutoring can offer a more unique and custom experience for my students.
One thing I enjoy most about teaching/tutoring is figuring how to relay my message in a way that students will gain a deeper understanding for the material. I love the challenge of figuring out what type of learners I am working with and finding appropriate resources to deepen the connection to learning. I am excited to continue this journey of discovery by working with you or your loved one.
During my time in China, I worked as an ESL tutor for both children and adults. I feel confident that I have gained tools and an understanding of how to teach English as an Additional Language, especially having spent years learning additional languages myself.
I studied Spanish for seven years, including spending time in Costa Rica and Spain. I can read, speak, and write Spanish and am in love with Latin American culture.
Having worked in an elementary school setting for more than one year, I have found a love for this age group. I really enjoy challenging the openness of mind, heart, and spirit of children this age and helping them to explore their own personalities within and outside of the classroom.
I fully believe in helping everyone to reach his or her greatest potential in life, not just in the classroom. I combine the subject matter with leadership points to help my students to see that there are more ways than one to be a leader and that sometimes we can become leaders in the very area we once struggled in. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked as a fourth grade home room teacher, enrichment teacher for K to Fifth, and a substitute teacher for the same age range. I feel confident working with students this age range and feel that I have gained many tools to relay information to them, including songs, visuals, and other aids.
I am a native of Louisiana who studied Spanish for eight years and studied abroad in Costa Rica and Spain. I have experience tutoring this subject and have helped many students improve in various areas, including speaking, reading, and writing.
I have tutoring individuals who were preparing for standardized testing. My most improved student retook the ELA part of the LEAP test that she previously failed and raised all scores to Basic. I like to focus on evaluating how the student approaches the material before offering suggestions.
