About Joseph

I began tutoring in high school in my Junior year. I was already extremely adept in most mathematical areas, and enrolled in a course devoted to tutoring struggling students after school, including many football and remedial students. I continued this during my Senior year.

My tutoring was pushed to the next level at this time, through my calculus course. The teacher of the course hadn't taken calculus in over 18 years, and was extremely rusty in the subject, to the point that she wasn't able to teach it effectively. It was at this point that I took it upon myself to learn the material as thoroughly as possible in order to teach myself and classmates and prepare us for the AP Calculus exam. Through the semester, the teacher would come to me and ask how I approached certain problems so she could understand them better.

While in college, I was always the go to person when it came to understanding the theory behind the math among my classmates. The mathematical underpinnings I had under my learned through my undergraduate work allowed me to quickly understand the concepts and math behind the electrical engineering workload. This, in turn, allowed me the opportunity to teach my fellow students the material quickly.

After graduating from University of New Orleans, I found employment with an engineering consulting firm, where I quickly became known for my love of math and teaching. Word spread, and shortly after my supervisor let me know that a client had two college students currently pursuing mechanical engineering degrees that needed help understanding electrical circuits. I took these two students on, and have been their go-to tutor for electrical engineering topics and advanced mathematics ever since. They have helped me reach out to more students, and I'm now tutoring approximately 10-15 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters.

After my high school AP Calculus AB course, I decided I had enough understanding of the subject to take the AP Calculus BC test, which I passed with a 5. This allowed me to go straight into the final semester of calculus immediately at university, and by the end of my second semester I had completed the first semester of differential equations and abstract algebra. I am extremely self motivated to learn all subjects that I haven't yet mastered, and regularly encourage students to present problems to me that might not be in my specific fields in order that I might expand my understanding of other subjects they might be struggling with, in order to help them or direct them to someone else that might be able to help.

I hope that after reading my profile you feel comfortable enough reaching out to me and knowing that if/when you do, you will get a quality session with an experienced tutor. Talk to you soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have tutored in mathematical subjects on and off for the past 15 years, and while a student at the University of New Orleans was employed as a student grader for an electrical engineering professor. I do a great job of connecting with students at a high school level and above. I also won local math competitions while in high school, both in a team setting and an individual participant.

Algebra 1

I have completed the calculus course progression at a college level, and have passed the AP Calculus BC test with a 5, rewarding me with 10 credits at Tulane University, where I originally attended school. My mastery of this subject was reliant upon my mastery of the subjects before it, and I am comfortable teaching anything up to ordinary differential equations, and possibly a portion of partial differential equations.

Differential Equations

I have taken two semesters in differential equations. I have also tutored two different students in the same family but at different schools in the area. I have a mastery of the different methods used in Differential equations, from the method of Frobenius to separable partial differential equations. I have tutored in large groups of 4 students so I can easily tutor a single student at a time as well.

Electrical Engineering

I studied for 4 years at the University level and have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. I have tutored both mechanical and electrical engineers in this subject. I have tutored several students online in this subject on various different websites.
