About Charles

I am a recent graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with a concentration in an American Chemical Society-certified degree.

I currently work for NASA at the Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, LA where my main focus of work is in Inorganic Chemistry, Materials Science, and Metallurgy. In addition to work, I am seeking out continued education through online classes in an array of topics such as astrophysics and aerospace engineering.

Always willing to push your education one step further. As someone who believes in the space program profoundly, the sky is definitely not the limit!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taken many courses in mathematics including linear algebra, differential equations, and other college level courses. In the past I have tutored students from 7th and higher in mathematics and sciences.

Algebra 2

Have a very verbose background in mathematics including advanced geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and linear algebra. Currently use algebraic functions and methods on a daily basis at work and tutor high school students in Algebra II (Common Core).

Astronomy

I work for NASA currently and astronomy affects us on a pretty much daily basis. To improve my knowledge for use in work and as a hobby, I have completed two courses of astrophysics and currently enrolled in a third section.

Calculus

Completed Calc I and II at SELU with a B average, have used linear algebra and different equations in some of my higher up chemistry courses.

Chemistry

I am well versed in chemistry from basic practices to advanced techniques and theory. My bachelor's degree is in Chemistry with a concentration in American Chemical Society certified coursework. This includes courses that are usually beyond the scope of a core curriculum and as part of this concentration I have passed advanced organic synthesis, inorganic chemistry, thermodynamics lab, material science, and bioanalytical all with A and B averages. I also know a ridiculous amount of useful (and useless) trivia regarding it, too.

Elementary Math

I have completed coursework in college in algebra, calculus, and physics. I have tutored middle school, high school, and college students in these subjects and younger students in other subjects.

Geometry

In my sophomore year of college I performed a short research project mapping the geometry of boron polyhedral molecules with quantum mechanical principles. Geometry has always been sort of a fun subject for me.

Microsoft Excel

I have used Excel since 1997 and currently use Excel with advanced functions on a daily basis. In high school I completed two courses of computer science, one of which focuses mainly on the program, and in college I completed another course on chemometrics in Excel. Every chemistry and physics course I have taken has used extensive amounts of calculations and plotting in Excel databases along with use of integrating it into presentations.

Music Theory

I have taken music classes since sixth grade and enrolled into honors bands since seventh grade. In high school I was allowed to enter into GT courses and learn extensive musical theory which I carried into college. I also have a lot of practical applications in music theory as I have played guitar in groups for about ten years.

Organic Chemistry

I have completed courses in undergrad in Organic I and II including accompanying labs along with a separate research course in organic (and inorganic) synthesis as per completion of my degree, all with a B average. I have tutored peers in both sections of Organic and in both sections of the labs for three years of my undergrad program. In my current position, I am expected to know and perform several basic and advanced organic practices including but not limited to theory, characterization, and synthesis.

Physical Science

I currently work as a physical scientist for NASA in New Orleans at the Michoud Assembly Facility. My main focus of my job is Inorganic Chemistry, Materials, and Metallurgy, but I am expected to be well rounded in pretty much everything.

Physics

I have completed calculus based physics I and II along with the accompanying lab sections. Further into my college career I completed Quantum Mechanics and Thermodynamics along with accompanying lab sections alongside individual research projects in the fields. I have additional credits in Astrophysics and currently enrolled in my third section of Astrophysics.

Prealgebra

I have completed higher level mathematics courses in college with decent grades and currently use most techniques on a daily basis in my career.

Precalculus

I have completed College level math courses including algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, physics, and quantum mechanics. Tutored students and peers for three to four years.
