About Netosha

I have many years of experience as a certified elementary educator, working with youth through Louisiana State Youth Opportunities Unlimited (LSU-Baton Rouge), and teaching at Summer Camp for Confluence Academy Schools (St. Louis). I am a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and a graduate of Caddo Magnet High School. I earned two undergraduate degrees at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, one in English and the other in Psychology. As a lifelong learner, I also received a Master of Arts in Teaching at Louisiana Tech University.

During my teaching career, I have been awarded the honor of "Teacher of the Month" at an award-winning National Blue Ribbon School. Additionally, many of my students have passed state-mandated tests. I am an advocate of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and available to assist students with completing class projects in conjunction with the other tutoring services I offer. Furthermore, I have experience with the educational standards that have been implemented, as I incorporate these standards into my teaching practice daily.

Other tutoring services I provide include the following: proofreading, editing, test-preparation, and assistance writing high school and university research papers. I have a passion for writing and impeccable written communication skills. Not only am I able to tutor children, but adults as well.

To ensure my clients have an environment conducive to learning, I am available to tutor in the local libraries. However, I will travel to another location if it is more convenient for you.

With many years of teaching and professional experience, I am delighted about the opportunity to partner with you to help you be successful. It is my pleasure to help others achieve their goals. I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I have taught in the public school system for the past seven years and I'm familiar with the Louisiana content standards for Math and Reading/Writing/English Language Arts (grade level expectations for Science and Social Studies). I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Louisiana Tech University.

There is a strong emphasis on writing and comprehension through Common Core. Writing is required in all subjects because students then must explain their thought process(es). The math skills students must develop in Common Core require them to be able to explain how they reach their answers, and not just to simply have computational knowledge. Students must be able to comprehend test questions in order to effectively and accurately answer them. In order for students to move on to more complex math skills, they must first master the preceding content and skills. Through my tutoring, I plan to help struggling students and those who want to progress to the next level.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a Louisiana highly qualified certified teacher according to the requirements of the No Child Left Behind federal legislation. I hold a current Louisiana Teaching Certificate and have taught in public schools for the past seven years. During my tenure as a teacher, I also served as a teacher for various after school tutoring and summer camp programs.

Praxis

As a current certified educator, I have taken and passed the Praxis Exam. Therefore, I am familiar with the formatting of the test. I also have a Bachelor of Arts in English, which is helpful when tutoring others in written components of tests and proofreading/editing/writing in general. I also received a Master of Arts in Teaching at Louisiana Tech University.

Social Studies

I am a Louisiana highly qualified certified teacher. I've taught elementary Social Studies each year within my seven years of experience. Not only is it one of my favorite subjects, but 100% of my students passed the Social Studies state mandated tests with a score of Basic, Mastery or Advanced. Therefore, the teaching methods I use have proven to be successful and will help the students I tutor succeed.

Study Skills

I'm knowledgeable of different learning styles and students' Multiple Intelligences according to developmental psychologist, Howard Gardner. Students need repetition, to set/achieve goals, consistent practice, and to review learning material daily in order to increase retention of academic knowledge. I have previous experience assisting students in being successful through my tenure as an elementary educator and after school tutoring. I would implement study skill strategies (note-taking, improving memory, boosting confidence, coping with test anxiety, and limiting distractions) best suited for each student I tutor.

Writing

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English in 2007. Writing is one of my strengths. Also, I'm a certified teacher and I have taught in the public school system for the past seven years.
