About Stephen

Having trouble with trig? Can't get your head around implicit differentiation? Systems of equations not quite adding up? Call me for any of your math needs.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Pure Math and have extensive experience tutoring high school and college students in 1-on-1 and small group settings in classes all the way from algebra through upper calculus and SAT/GRE Prep.

I also have proficiency in physics and basic chemistry, music theory (lifelong trumpet player), and grammar/proof reading. I am currently a seminary student.

Want the nitty gritty on my qualifications? In 2010 I received Level 1 Certification from the CRLA, a national tutoring organization. My personal test scores are excellent - 5 in AP Calc BC, 800 on the Math portion of the GRE, 3.86 overall college GPA. Every student that I have helped in standardized testing has raised his/her score to passing or better, based on the requirements for their 1st choice school.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The ACT Math section is very similar to a typical high school curriculum. I have taught math full time for several years and tutored students in high school math for over 10 years, especially including test prep.

ACT Science

The ACT Science section focuses on data analysis and major concepts learned in high school science. My degree includes a concentration in physics and I have helped students improve their science scores for over 10 years.

Algebra 1

I have a college degree in Math and have worked with students for over 10 years in high school math. I work with students in Algebra I to improve their attention to detail and their ability to work through formulas and concepts.

Algebra 2

I have a degree in math and over 10 years of experience in teaching and tutoring high school math students. My work with students in Algebra II is to teach better problem-solving methods and review the formulas and concepts that are important in the course.

Calculus

I have a degree in math, specifically pure math with high level Advanced Calculus course work. Calculus is the class for most high school and college students that has the highest combination of both computational skills and conceptual thinking required. I have worked with students in calculus for over 10 years to give them confidence and change the way they think about math.

SAT Math

The SAT math section includes many ideas typically taught in high school classes but also requires a unique approach and strategy to answer all questions in time. I have taught math full time for several years and tutored students in high school math for over 10 years, especially including test prep.
