I have loved working with students since I was in high school. My first job was at the after-school program under the Free Library of Philadelphia. I have loved working with students since I was in high school. My first job was at the after-school program under the Free Library of Philadelphia. I was tasked with not only library science duties, but also helping elementary students with their homework. It was here that I discovered that I had a knack for English and Science. My academic and professional journey has showcased that this passion never faded. I graduated with my B.A in English from Drexel University, during which worked in the Writing Center as a tutor. After graduating I worked as a contracted tutor and reading specialist in the DC/VA/MD area where I was placed in elementary, middle and high schools, and more recently I completed my Master's degree at Louisiana State University, where I completed over 400 supervised clinical clock hours, many of which involved working with individuals on reading comprehension and more. Even more, I wrote and published my master's thesis on the use of visual aids to remediate speech sound errors-- a thesis which focused on the ways in which we acquire and master an ability. In retrospect, I realize reinforced that the discovery of how we best learn and how to tap into our strengths so that we can increase our weaknesses has long since been a passion of mine.
Experience has taught me that the process of learning can be a grueling, yet rewarding. My aspiration is to scaffold that process; to teach what needs to be taught and to encourage when it is time to be encouraged. I seek to help students gain the confidence in the areas of reading, writing, and the sciences to realize their academic potential.
