About Jeff

I'm nearing the end of my second year teaching and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. Since a young age I've dedicated my time to learning as much as possible, and I have continued that pursuit into college and grad school. Now I get to share it with others by teaching on a daily basis, and I hope to extend this passion to you. I also teach a western civilization class for the the local community college three days per week.

Social studies is more than facts. Anyone who has taken a standardized test in this area knows as much. I'm here to help you actually understand the information, because rote memorization can only get you so far! I've successfully tutored undergraduates when I was in graduate school, and I look forward to helping you now! My experience includes 84 hours of combined history credits (that's 28 different classes!), working as a graduate assistant while completing my masters, obtaining my social studies teaching certification, and actually teaching a combination of American History, dual enrollment World History, and World Geography.

Concerning helping you with your writing, my professors all agreed that I became a great writer for one reason. I am teachable. I've heeded their advice and have stored it away so I can share it with others, in this case, you! This makes me a great proofreader for all types of papers, and along with that comes study skills and reading comprehension.

Please contact me if you need help. I'll help as much as you allow!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

The English portion of the ACT requires basic knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, which I acquired during my six years of historical writing.

American History

I have taken four years of undergraduate coursework and two years of graduate coursework in history with about half of it being in US history.

I also teach American history full time to high school juniors.

European History

I have taken four years of undergraduate coursework and two years of graduate coursework in history with more than half of it being in European history.I also teach a western civilization class for the the local community college three days per week.

Geography

Not only have I enjoyed studying geography since I could read, I took a survey class on the subject in undergraduate school, and I taught it for a full year on the high school level.

Writing

I worked hard to become a better writer throughout my six years of studying history. Grad school was exclusively reading and writing for a dozen classes. I listened to the criticism of my professors, and I improved considerably over those two years. Now, I'm the one who critiques the book reviews in order to help other young writers.
