About Ly

I have been a tutor of Math and Chemistry for more than five years. I began tutoring in my junior year at my high school's Beta Club. When I went to college, I have been involved with weekly tutoring at Gordon A. Cain Center at Louisiana State University. The tutoring was on a walk-in basis, and for most weeks, I would tutor two to three students in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Calculus for at least an hour. Through tutoring, I was able to help individuals by reviewing notes, walking them through example problems, and clarifying any concepts that they struggled to understand during lecture. This experience has allowed me to not only help others in learning the concepts but also have a more positive outlook on the class. I assisted students in the completion and understanding of science assignments, concepts, notes, and study skills. Additionally, I was given the opportunity to evaluate students’ performance and understanding of scientific subjects. These duties enable me to develop strong lecturing and evaluation skills and gave me the opportunity to interact with students of different origins.

I also participated in chemistry demonstrations at multiple public schools with LSU ChemDemo program, which enables students to explore science, to share their discovery, and to learn new knowledge. I was delighted to watch students work collaboratively and excitedly help each another.

I am good with numbers. Algebra is also the first subject I tutored when I was in high school. I can help students understand Algebra's concepts better with clear, and easy guide.

My degree is in Chemistry, and I have learnt from my research advisor every "tricks" and tips so that Organic Chemistry is not a nightmare. Therefore, I would like to teach others everything I knew from him, so that they could understand Organic Chemistry better. I had one publication about Synthesis of Vinyl Chlorides and a second paper is on its way. I am also a member of ChemDemo program which teaches K-12 students the beauty of Chemistry as well as science.

From my experience, I observed that students needed someone who believed that they can succeed. Students should be able to understand concepts thoroughly and be able to use it themselves, and they should be able to solve problems step-by-step with understanding and a positive attitude. I will make students realize that they need to learn the material themselves for their own knowledge, not because I tell them to learn or that it is required for class. I will lead students to the right answers, and encourage them to search for more information outside the classroom such as books and websites. I do believe that with my experience, I will be able to teach students the beauty of science. My success will not only be improved test scores, but also students’ abilities to propose their own questions about the world. I also succeed when students can achieve their dreams in life no matter what stands in their way.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I received a 36 in my Math portion. I am good with numbers. I can help students understand and perform better in ACT Math with clear, and easy guide.
