Growing up, I found that I had a knack for math and science. It was tough to be proud of these skills as a young girl in a small town that valued domestic skills more than technical skills. Luckily, I had a few supportive female teachers who encouraged me to push myself and to be proud of my abilities (even if it made me a "nerd"). Eventually, I outgrew the opportunities at my local high school and transferred to LSMSA. I specialized in biological sciences during my time there and truly found my niche. I went on to major in Biology at LSU. During my time at LSU, I began tutoring fellow classmates as well as student athletes in many classes (ranging from introductory biology to physiology to sociology). I found this work very rewarding and made the decision to make teaching my career

I am now a fifth-year science teacher at a math & science magnet school. I am currently teaching 7th Grade Life Science, and AP Biology. In the past I have taught Biology I, Chemistry, Physical Science, and BIOL 1001/1002. I am certified in middle school science, biology, AP biology, and chemistry. I am also able to teach introductory level college biology courses. I am comfortable tutoring a wide range of science classes. I love my job. I love helping students, no matter what their age, develop a better understanding of the world around them!

I have a solid understanding of the middle school and early high school math concepts that are tested on the ACT.

I have taken MANY science courses.

In high school I took biology, botany, genetics, human anatomy and physiology, vertebrate anatomy, and chemistry.

In college I took biology, chemistry, genetics, organic chemistry, biochemistry, evolution, parasitology, microbial pathogens, anthropology, sociology, vertebrate physiology, and physics.

I currently teach chemistry, 7th grade life science, and biology II (Biol 101 & 102 for BRCC)

No matter the level of the course, I am excited to help you or your student achieve their academic goals and reach their full potential!

Over the past seven years, I have taught every grade level of student between 7th-12th grade. The courses I have covered have included: life science, earth science, physical science, biology I, chemistry, biology II, anatomy & physiology, and AP Biology. I have a degree in biological sciences and have been working with students since graduating from LSU in 2012.

Sociology

Sociology

I took honors sociology at LSU during my time as an undergraduate. The class contained a large communication component in which students were responsible for running a discussion forum. We were responsible for posting questions about topics covered class and then debating said topics with classmate via a forum discussion. I passed the course with an A and found it very enjoyable.

Genetics

As a biology major, it was required that I take a genetics course. I passed this course with an A. I also took genetics as a high-school course and made an A. My lab-work during college was in a microbial genetic lab. I manipulated and transformed E. coli cells regularly. I believe that this gives me a unique advantage in that I am able to explain the concepts of this course on both a low and high level. My knowledge extends past what is necessary to pass the course.

In high school, I took an introductory microbiology course and excelled in the subject. I successfully completed courses in parasitology, microbiology, and microbial pathogens (all with either an A or B). My student research was completed in a microbial genetics lab.

Amazing tutor/teacher, very knowledgeable

Tyne was extremely helpful during our session. I had immense struggle with grasping the information for class, but she went through multiple problems with me to understand the thought process behind everything and she showed me some of her methods on how to approach certain examples. Practice makes perfect, and with Tyne she really helps you focus on practicing more and more in order to truly attain all the knowledge you’ll want/need.

Great Tutor

Great tutor! She takes her time and explains things well. She also gives you chances to figure things out on your own before explaining.

Tyne's lesson was Biology Two Functional Groups. I like that she is easy to understand and I now think I am prepared for my next test.
