About Miriam

I have taught courses in religious studies, medieval philosophy, and continuing education courses for both LSU and the Anglican Diocese of Huron, Ontario. I have also lectured to health care providers on culture and ethics in the healthcare setting, for a bio-ethics consulting firm in Ontario, Canada. I have done some history private tutoring on an "as requested" bases and teach private piano lessons.

Nothing is more wonderful to me than seeing a student's "light turn on" - meaning that I have engaged them in the topic to the point where they find personal relevance and application. Once a student "connects" with a subject, it is so much easier to learn and to retain knowledge. I believe that there is no greater joy than to learn and then apply that knowledge in a meaningful way. I love being a part of that process!

A large part of my undergraduate work was spent in Old Testament Studies and numerous coursework hours on archeological methodology, analysis and site studies. Spent time working with Yigal Shiloh (who studied under Yigal Yadin) in Jerusalem on dig-site outside of Old City. Traveled extensively in Europe, Israel, Sinai and Turkey. Masters degree in religion focused on Old Testament studies, Dead Sea Scrolls and Gnostic Gospels. Have taught undergraduate seminars on Dead Sea Scrolls and continuing education courses on Dead Sea Scrolls, Gnostic Gospels, Creation Mythology, and Medieval Philosophy. Archeological record plays a huge role in these subjects

History is my #1 passion! I believe that a good knowledge of history is critical in informing how we engage our present and plan for our future. I believe that to ignore the significance and contextual relevance of history is to approach local and global political and economical matters with a critical disadvantage.

I have a master's degree in religion focused on Old Testament studies, Dead Sea Scrolls and Gnostic Gospels. Have taught undergraduate seminars on Dead Sea Scrolls and continuing education courses on Dead Sea Scrolls, Gnostic Gospels, Creation Mythology, and Medieval Philosophy. Could teach any historical era, but specialize in ancient historical work.

I have taught beginning piano to young learners for years. I love seeing what the world of musical exploration opens up for young children. Studied piano for 18 years. Had a studio of 15 brand new young students who performed numerous recitals as part of their lessons with me. I had to close my studio to concentrate on Masters degree coursework. Beginning to teach again.

I truly look forward to meeting you and exploring if I can help open up the world for you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam.
