About Sonu

Assisting my fellow classmates with their questions and homework is something that I have been doing for as long as I can remember. The whole idea of being able to help someone find a pathway that they can follow along when they get lost trying to understand some concept or solve a problem fills me with contentment and self satisfaction. I currently offer tutoring services in Algebra 1and2, Trig, Geometry, ACT math, Physics, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry.

I graduated on Dec 2011 with Biology major and Chemistry minor. I have taken math courses up to Calculus II along with sufficient physics courses. I tutor students from Grade 7 to College level, and my major subjects include chemistry, physics, algebra I and II, geometry, and biology. Students are very comfortable with my tutoring techniques and they enjoy the sessions as well. I have also volunteered in Mathematics Learning Center at University of New Orleans. I helped freshmen and sophomore level students with Trig, Geometry, Algebra, and Calculus problems.

When I tutor, first I find out where the student is in terms of understanding the concepts, and then I look for the areas that the student is having difficulty with. Once I know what the student needs help with, I work with the student to tackle those areas and to clarify the concepts by eliminating any confusions that they might have. By providing real life examples and showing potential practical applications of the problems, students are able to see the bigger picture which increases their confidence level, and they become comfortable with solving any other related problems.

I am persistent and I do not give up easily. If a student is having trouble with anything, I make every effort possible to help the student. One of my greatest strengths, as a tutor, is that I am patient enough to let my student ask me a thousand questions until and unless they get the point. I believe that the best way to help a student is to build his/her confidence while improving the overall understanding of the material, and that's what I make sure of when I tutor.

Last but not the least, I know how to make studying a fun thing to do. So, if you are looking for great help plus a good studying time, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

Need help with ACT math? I can be a great help! I have been tutoring Mathematics for a while now. I have scored very well in my own SAT and GRE math, therefore I have a good experience of going through the preparation for the test as well as the test taking part. With the strategy and study techniques that I used to prepare for ACT math, I can help you out find answers to your questions. We will not just do the Math, but enjoy the process as well. I believe that when you enjoy doing something, you master it. The end result is "you boost your score."

Algebra 1

I have been tutoring mathematics online for more than 4 months now, and Algebra 1 & 2 is the one that I tutor the most. I also tutored mathematics to freshmen and Sophomore level students, who usually had algebra questions. With all the tutoring experience, I know very well where the student stands in terms of the level of understanding of the concepts. It allows me to focus on what the student needs help on. I can get the point I need to make across by bringing my level of teaching with the student's needs, so that there is no time wasted. So, if you need help on algebra 1, you can count on me!

Algebra 2

I have been tutoring mathematics online for more than 4 months now, and Algebra 2 is the one that I tutor the most. I also tutored mathematics to freshman and Sophomore level students, who usually had algebra questions. With all the tutoring experience, I know very well where the student stands in terms of the level of understanding of the concepts. It allows me to focus on what the student needs help with. Biochemistry

As a Biology major, I have taken both Biochem I and Biochem II (not more than a year ago). My level of understanding and knowledge in biochemistry gives me confidence in tutoring this subject. I have been reviewing the materials from Biochem as I prepare for a standardized test that I am going to take on May, therefore most of the topics are fresh in my mind. I would love to help you with this subject as I know that it can sometimes become impossible to get the stuff by just reading from the textbook.

Calculus

I have taken Calculus I and II during my college years, and I have always excelled in every test. It's because of the level of understanding that I have gained, and the method that I use to handle the subject. Therefore, it gives me a huge advantage in being able to put it on the table for the students in as simple terms as possible. Students have the opportunity to get insight into the purpose of carrying out each operation, rather than just doing the "math" part, hence the students will acquire the concepts that they will carry on without losing them on their way. My experience of tutoring math and calculus as a whole will be of great value to the students who are in need of help.

Chemistry

Chemistry is one of my favorite subjects and the one that I tutor the most. I minored in Chemistry from my undergraduate institution and obtained perfect scores in all of my classes. I have worked in a chemistry research lab for almost two years and also as a Chemist for a chemical industry for a year. I have been tutoring chemistry (both organic and inorganic) for more than two years now. I have worked with students from Grade 9 to college level seniors and helped them with their chemistry classes. The feedback and ratings I have received for chemistry sessions have been phenomenal. I strongly believe that the teaching experience I have gained so far makes me a qualified chemistry tutor.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked with children under the age of 10 as teaching assistant in Children's Center-University of New Orleans. I also have tutoring experience, helping children from kinder garden to Grade 10 with mathematics. I am able to interact with young kids and make them understand the math concepts by bringing my level of teaching that fits appropriately with their level. I utilize my interactive fun tools and creative teaching skills to not just help the children learn how to do math but also make solving math problems a fun thing to do. I would really love to help your children ace the subject and at the same time enjoy the subject.

Geometry

My level of understanding of Geometry and the amount of practice I have put into it places me into a position of an effective tutor for the subject. I am good with simplifying the geometric theories as well as helping the students understand the shapes/diagrams through interactive and creative means. I have taken Geometry through out my high school, and I still keep myself fresh and updated. So, I can really be a great help, if you are looking for assistance in Geometry.

MCAT

I have taken the MCAT twice, and in both cases, I scored well in the physical sciences (12) and biology section (12). I have a good knowledge of the materials (physics, chem, and biology), question types, preparation technique, time management, and question tackling strategies. Having an experience of going through the preparation myself, I believe that I can be a great resource to the students who are preparing for MCAT, and I would be glad to share everything that I have learned during my own preparation for the test.

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry is one of my favorite subjects. I minored in Chemistry during my undergraduate education at University of New Orleans. I have taken college level organic chemistry courses, along with the labs. As an elective, I took advanced organic chemistry, and I have aced in all of those courses. My knowledge on organic chemistry allows me a great deal of confidence in tutoring the subject. My classmates have received my help in these subjects, and their reaction has been very positive. I have been doing research in an Organic synthesis lab for almost a year and a half now, and for all these good reasons, I believe that I can be a great help if you are in need of an organic chem tutor!

I highly recommend Miss Sonu!! — My 10th grader needed help with Chemistry and Geometry. After ONE session (1.5 - two hours), my son was so confident about his coursework that I had to beg him to schedule another session. The first session not only went over problem areas, she reinforced the foundation of the subject matter that helped him with future assignments (that means you save money also). We had a total of three sessions, ...
