DePauw University (Biology)
I have been teaching for around 8 months now. I started out as an Anatomy TA at IUPUI and am now substitute teaching K-12 in Clark Co. I enjoy teaching classrooms, but I actually enjoy small group or one-on-one interactions better. I have been taking my pre-med requirements for the past year and a half and am currently wait-listed at UK and LECOM. I am currently planning on attending UK for a Masters in Medical Science next year if I do not get a spot at either medical school.
I think that education actually works much better in small group settings. I believe that everyone learns material in different ways, and will try and cater each student's session to that particular student. I can usually explain concepts in a way that allows people to understand the concept at a deeper level using things that that person can relate to, so the longer I work with someone the better I become at helping them learn.
I have taught college level anatomy, I was a philosophy minor, and a biology major. I love philosophy and would have majored in it, but it wasn't in my career plans. Biology has always come easy too me and I have always been able to explain concepts in biology to my peers better than any other subject.
I played soccer from the time I was 4 all the way into college, granted it was at the DIII level, but I believe the skills and experience I have will allow me to better any player up to high-school age. I still play basketball and I played a year in high-school, but my knowledge and experience are well beyond that.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
