Hi there! My name is Jeremiah, and I'm here to help you and your loved ones succeed. I have been a tutor for most basic subjects for nearly twenty years now, having started out when I was in high school. In addition, I have served as a teaching assistant and a de facto teacher for approximately seven years during the same time frame. I have undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral-level courses in education and have been certified as a Bible Specialist teacher by an international certification agency for private schools. In addition to tutoring, I currently work with homeschool students focusing on elementary reading, arithmetic, computer instruction, and introductory Biblical Hebrew.

I work well with elementary and middle school students one-on-one in reading, writing, and arithmetic, up through basic algebra. Moving on to high school, I help students improve their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, which can be useful for most core subjects. For college and graduate students, I specialize in Biblical Studies, wherein I hold a BA from Huntington University and an MA from Asbury Seminary, in addition to doctoral-level courses. With Biblical studies, I focus primarily on language instruction (e.g. Biblical Hebrew and Greek) and literary studies (e.g. Exegesis, Inductive Bible Studies), but also secondarily religious studies (e.g. Theology, World Religions, History). For all levels of students, including doctoral students, I offer my services as a writing coach and proofreader. This service is especially helpful for students who need to improve their critical thinking skills, or those who have learned or are learning English as a second language.

Both learning and teaching are my passion. I am excited for this opportunity to help you succeed!

Video Production

Video Production

I am a self-taught video production consultant and producer. My first video production was in 2005: a photo memorial with nature clips and soft music to be played at a funeral. Since 2010, I have recorded video gameplay and created video guides posted on YouTube that teach other players how to perform difficult tasks in video games. In 2016 I started a new business with similar productions in mind as a means of income, rather than just entertainment. This year we have expanded on this and have begun producing short promotional videos (<4 mins) for a martial arts studio, and plan to work more with them to produce 30-second advertisements in the near future. Although I do have some filmography experience, my specialty lies in using pre-recorded clips and editing them as needed to produce a single video, while adding text, audio/visual effects, and music as needed.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I served as a high school teaching assistant for two terms teaching language arts and speech courses. In college, most of my elective courses were in oral communication, where I also tutored for two years. Among others, courses included a total of three courses specifically designed for public speaking. In addition, I have one year’s experience training sales agents in delivering public sales pitches, and several years’ experience working with seminary and graduate school students in preparing and evaluating sermons and seminar presentations.

Networking (Computer),

Networking (Computer)

I have one year of experience as a Level III High Care Agent of Verizon Business High Speed Internet tech support. My department was primarily responsible for repeat problems, where we would work to identify troublesome internet networking issues and resolve them. The training we received naturally included basic networking components, which we more often than not passed on to our clients when asked. In addition to repeat problems, I also worked as needed as supervisor over Level II tech support agents and as a Level III escalations agent. Since that time, I have maintained a small network for a small business I have run for seven years, and have assisted other businesses and persons with their basic networking needs. My knowledge is limited to networking computers and other devices (e.g. printers, gaming consoles, phones, remote hard drives) via a router and/or modem, using WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, and ethernet, with or without Internet access; I do not have experience setting up servers.

ESL/ESOL,

ESL/ESOL

I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults from a variety of lingual backgrounds, including (but not limited to) Chinese, Korean, Russian, and Spanish. Most of my ESL tutoring has involved conversational English, though I do have limited experience helping with technical writing. I prefer to include reading in my ESL tutoring, which about half of my students find more helpful than not. However, I am just as capable of helping students learn to speak English without learning to read and write English. Generally, all instruction provided is in English.
Greek,

Greek

I hold a BA in Bible and Religion with 21 credit hours on record (including audited courses) in Biblical Greek. I also hold an MA in Biblical Studies with an additional six credit hours of Biblical Greek. I have over 60 credit hours of language application (including Biblical Aramaic, Greek, and Hebrew) via exegesis and inductive Bible studies courses. I have two years experience as a teaching assistant and tutor in the subject of Biblical Greek.

I hold a BA in Bible and Religion with three credit hours on record in Biblical Hebrew. I have over 60 credit hours of language application (including Biblical Aramaic, Greek, and Hebrew) via exegesis and inductive Bible studies courses. I have two years of experience as a teaching assistant in the subject of Biblical Hebrew, three years of experience as a Biblical Hebrew reading group leader, and two years of experience as a tutor in the subject of Biblical Hebrew.

Proofreading

As a teaching assistant in a variety of subjects for over three years, my primary responsibility has been to mark students' essays, critiques, and research papers; providing detailed feedback throughout. I offer proofreading and editing services for all secondary, most undergraduate, and several postgraduate fields of study. I have experience in using APA, Chicago, MLA, Turabian, and SBL style manuals, and can quickly pick up on others as needed. In addition to academic studies, I also have over eight years' experience in journalism. If you are primarily in need of someone to proofread or edit your draft and provide written coaching on it along with 1-2 revisions, I also offer a discounted rate on a per-page basis, instead of a per-hour basis. Discounted editing rates cover up to four double-spaced pages (approximately 1,250 words) for the equivalent of a half an hour of tutoring. (Note: actual editing times are longer, and standard rates apply to any in-person or live online sessions.)

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I have two homeschooled children whom I have taught elementary mathematics ranging from kindergarten through third grade. I have also helped out on a volunteer basis with other homeschooled children and with an after school program for children. I am familiar with both the "traditional" approach to mathematics and the more recent common core approach. I incorporate both of these into my lessons in order to make sure students are not simply memorizing facts, but also understanding the principles behind them, as well as various methods by which to solve problems. I value a wholistic approach to mathematics that incorporates geometry, pre-algebra, and finance at the earliest levels.
Reading,

Reading

In addition to tutoring students, I have three children of my own whom I homeschool in elementary reading, ranging from early alphabet recognition in preschool through a fourth grade reading level. I work with students both on phonics skills and sight recognition, so as to help them understand how to sound out new words and to read with speed. At the upper elementary levels (beginning in late second grade), I also work on their reading comprehension skills, teaching them how to make observations, ask questions, draw inferences, and form conclusions from their reading material. These inductive reading skills form the core for high school and higher education reading as well.
