About Rachel

Hello!

My name is Rachel!

I love kids! I was a first grade teacher, and I loved it! I'm a mom now, and I decided to help children learn on an individual basis. As a mom, I know what it is to watch the child you love struggle; I know that desire to watch them succeed! That is why my ultimate goal is to work myself out of a job.

The first lesson with your child will be dedicated to assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the academics. Immediately after that initial assessment, your child and I will begin working together to improve test scores. As we work, I'll be able to learn how your child's brain works, and I'll be able to pass that knowledge along through tailored study skills. Eventually, my hope is that I will be able to sit back, watching your child put into practice all we've learned about how to learn. You should be watching a more confident child bring home better grades. A learning style geared toward your child will set your child up for a lifetime of academic success, and for a teacher, there's no greater joy.

It would be my joy to help your child succeed. I cannot wait to hear from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

A good score on the ACT is essential for acceptance in a good school. Language arts is my favorite subject to teach for quick mastery.

ACT Reading

Reading is a passion of mine, and I teach it as such. I'll be showing you how to grasp the details hidden within a text, intended to bolster your ACT score.

Bible Studies

I went to Pensacola Christian College, where I learned a great deal of the Bible. I have a deep love for the stories in the Bible and the wisdom this wonderful book contains.

Elementary Math

I find elementary math to be one of the most rewarding subjects to teach. Initially, every student gets a quick boost in test scores as we memorize facts. Then, as we learn how to apply the math facts, the students are prepared for future of success in math.

Grammar

Grammar is not a dull subject, at least, not when I teach it! My students get to color-code parts of speech, place them in sentences, and learn the basics of diagramming. I do it all with a creative flare that brings excitement to the lessons.

Phonics

I studied teaching phonics in college, taught phonics as a first grade teacher, and have tutored phonics with the definitive belief that phonics is the only good foundation for reading.

Proofreading

Proofreading comes naturally to me as language arts has always been my natural scholarly pursuit. I actually enjoy finding the little things that need improving.

Reading

Reading is a passion of mine, but in this world of instant gratification, it's becoming more and more difficult to help students see the value in reading. This is a challenge I heartily accept. I have taught many children the joys that can be found in a book, and in the process, I've improved their fluency, comprehension, and their test scores.

SAT Reading

Reading is a passion of mine, but it wouldn't be if I couldn't grasp the details hidden within the text. I can show you ways to improve your SAT score by opening up the world of better reading.

Writing

I have always loved writing, and it's my joy to relate that I have passed on that passion. I once had a student who wrote his assignments. His thoughts were disconnected, and he confided in me that he did not like writing. I taught him how to structure his thoughts, how to open with a good introduction, build paragraphs, and give a stunning conclusion. Later that semester, his school held a school-wide writing competition, and he won first place. I'll never forget the pride I saw in his face as he told me he loved writing!
