My experience tutoring and teaching is quite varied and made me particularly adept at adapting my teaching to each student's learning style. I first tutored while in high school where I tutored fellow students and grade school age students in Spanish. I also taught Spanish classes from ages 3 to adult levels. In college, I was recruited by the tutoring center to work with at risk students in study skills, test taking, Spanish and English.
After graduation, I worked as a tutor for the Upward Bound Program working with at risk high school students in any area necessary. I also taught ESL from beginner to the most advanced levels. In addition, I taught bilingual fourth and sixth grade. Since then, I have tailored Spanish courses for businessman and tutored test taking skills for people pursuing state licensing.
Four years tutoring in the Reading and Writing Center at Augustana College and three years of teaching ESL/ tutoring for Upward Bound program. I have also studied Old English and Middle English.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
