Hello, I'd like for you to know that I have been committed to teaching and educating others most of my life. Hello, I'd like for you to know that I have been committed to teaching and educating others most of my life. When I was 13 years old, I went with my grandmother to help with the Head Start Programs in the 60's. As I went through school, I strived to do the best I could. Sometimes it was a struggle, but I graduated from high school at the age of 17. I went straight to a community college for two years to get my associate degree. From there I received my double major from the University of Kentucky in elementary education and special education. My first year of teaching involved math, which was my least favorite, but it was a job to get my foot in the door. The following year I began teaching high school special education, where my true commitment was. I taught those students how to survive in our real world and did many extracurricular activities, such as making items and selling them. We had our own little store. I taught them how to budget their check books, their food cost and their time, how to go about getting a job, etc. As time went on, I went to our Middle School. Again I taught the students practical living skills, how to read and write to get along in society. I started to prepare them for different jobs that they could perform. While teaching, I returned to school to get my 5th year degree and my Rank I in Special Education and Microcomputers. After teaching 27 years in middle school and high school, I retired because of health issues. I wasn't out of the system for long as I came back as a permanent substitute for a semester. I have now been substituting long and short term for all ages in surrounding counties. At one time, I also taught adult education. My most recent jobs have been in the elementary schools, K-6.
I have raised two daughters who are very involved in education also. One is a guidance counselor and the other is a PTO President and on a Site Based Council. I continue to teach their children and many others in our community. I've been at it a long time, but I feel sure t

I have a double life-time certification in K-6 for elementary education and k-12 in special education. I taught 27 years in the public middle school and high school. I have substituted in all grades k-12 for the last 15 years. I am more confident in teaching reading and language to younger children at this point in my life. I prefer part time and one-on-one at this time in my life.
Phonics,

Phonics

I guess you could say I learned to read the old fashion way, through phonics. I still think that is the best way to teach children to read. They must first learn their alphabet, then the sound that each letter makes, what a consonant is and their vowels. Once they've learned those basics we can continue to put sounds together and start blending letters to make words. I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a double major in elementary (1-8) and special education (1-12). With this background, I feel like I can help all levels of people wanting to learn to read. I have taught in the public school, a private Catholic school and Adult Education

Special Needs

I have taught special education classes for over 27 years. I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a double major in elementary education (1-8) and special education (I-12). I taught middle school and high school students, including EMH, now known as MMD. I have also taught in LD and FMD classrooms. I have run and managed my own resource classrooms and I also collaborated with regular education teachers. I now substitute in elementary schools and have even taught K for a semester. I've always wanted to help and teach others, especially those who are less fortunate. Even though I am now older and retired, I'd still like to continue teaching. I think anyone can continue to learn and I'm certainly willing to help.
