WKU (Music Arts Flute)
University of Phoenix (Master's)
I have taught for over 13 years to elementary school students raging from Pre-K to 5th grade. The reason I chose to be a teacher is to ensure that every year a building of students will receive a smile and vote of confidence from one each day! My drive in the classroom to be the best teacher that my students deserve is strong and positive. Students today come into our classrooms each day / year and most starving for a close connection with an adult who believes in them. The most important thing for a teacher to focus on when first meeting their students is to build a trusting relationship. Once the student trust their teacher he or she will grow academically that school year.
Each year I tutor students outside of teaching my regular classroom and really enjoy the one on one time. I love teaching my classroom full of students, but also tutoring. I promise your child will enjoy learning in our tutoring sessions. I engage the student while we are working to ensure their learning goals are met and strength is built in subject areas.
I have taught 90 minute Math blocks for the past 7 years. My lessons always open with a 30 minute whole group lesson then we break into small groups and centers. I use many researched based and my own strategies that are proven to help build strong math skills in students. Many of my math lessons are hands on using manipulatives.
I have never tutored in Science but do teach it each year and I've had experience teaching K-5 Science.
Reading and Language Arts just like Math I have taught 90 minute blocks for 7 years or more. I engage students through read aloud activities. A passage or short story is chosen and I incorporate many skills needed for Reading / LA during our reading and lesson. I also work with 3 small reading groups each day focusing on skills the students need more of.
As your tutor I will promise to get to know what type of learner you are to make each minute of our time together count. My goal is to strengthen your skills in the subject area you need help in. I will listen to your parents and work with them side by side to help you succeed. I'm very upbeat, positive, and outgoing. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
