I am a certified teacher with a college degree in education as well as most of my Masters degree. I have 40 years of experience teaching in public, private and on the radio...in groups of 1 to over 100. I have enjoyed teaching students as young as 4 and as old as 80. My areas of specialty are Reading, English (writing and speaking), public speaking, ancient history, science, archaeology and Bible. For students up to 8th grade, I can also teach math, French and some Japanese.
I am 64 and all three of my children are college graduates (one has his Masters degree). I have taught native Americans, Parisians, Congolese natives, Japanese families and even a family from Bolivia. My home is set up for teaching and tutoring. I have hundreds of interesting books, maps charts, visual aids and learning games. Because of recent surgeries, I prefer not to drive. Parents are welcome to stay and observe or just relax in the next room if they choose...or drop off and pick up your children. I look forward to meeting you!
I have taught English as a foreign language for over 20 years. Upon returning to Japan they organized and paid for me to visit them for a month. The seminary hired me to help African doctoral candidates (Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo). I have built and repaired computers for nearly 30 years, helping fellow grad students, professors while, at the same time, teaching my children to build their own from the motherboard on up. (One of my sons set up the whole computer system at his Air Force Base when he was stationed in Qatar.)
One of my sons works in Hollywood and was on Star Trek for 2 years. My daughter is a businesswoman for Mary Kay and has just earned her second car. My youngest son's GPA from high school was 4.3.
I took German and Japanese when I was in third grade, Spanish in fourth grade and French in Fifth grade through my senior year in high school. Years later, as a mother of 3 in seminary, I interviewed for the job of private Japanese tutor...using the Japanese I remembered from when I was 8.
I love meeting new students and seeing light brighten their eyes when they finally understand something that confused them before!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
