I have been teaching in Kentucky Public Schools for ten years, and am currently teaching Senior English to the ESL population at a local High School. I have worked with all ages and proficiency levels. Before beginning my work in Public Schools, I taught English at WKU and UofL, specializing in Grammar, Writing, and Reading. I taught English for a year abroad in Austria at Middle and High School levels, and tutored multiple students looking to improve their English skills. I also currently teach a Senior Writing course designed to help English Learners in their creative and mechanical writing capacities.

I enjoy working with you people, imparting to them a love of language in general and English in particular. As an ESL teacher, I am well aware of the power of language and I strongly believe in the helping students open the doors of opportunity via effective communication skills.

I am highly qualified to teach English language and Literature. I have a deep, abiding love for both the mechanics and the delivery of writing. I specialized in English Literature during my first Master’s degree. I work well with teens and Elementary-aged students alike.

I have lived in a German speaking land for over two years, and I taught there on an Fulbright Scholarship. I am very familiar with not only the language but also the culture. I use my German on a daily basis, and I am a big proper pronunciation and accent, as this was the key to my own success living abroad. The natives are a lot kinder to you when you sound like them!

I look forward to working with you!

My primary audience in the elementary school was ESL students, or English Learners, as they are sometimes called. These students of immigrant families would come in not knowing how to communicate in English. My job was to help them improve their reading, writing, speaking and listening capabilities. I pulled several small groups a day to work with students in this areas. Primarily, however, we worked with developing the five areas of literacy: comprehension, vocabulary, phonemic awareness, fluency, and phonics. My training with the Bellarmine Literacy Project honed my own instructional practices in these areas.
