Hi, I'm Amber! I absolutely love math and science, and that is why I love tutoring so much! I like to make learning engaging and entertaining. I have been a tutor at Indiana University Southeast for over a year. I have worked with students ranging from ages 18 to 24 in the college setting. I also have been an education and math major for four years in my continuing education at Indiana University. Through the education department, I have worked with students from the ages of 12 to 18 at the middle and high school level. I have also worked with students with special needs and learning disabilities. I graduated from high school in the Math/Science/Technology program, and I am working toward a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and education.
My approach to tutoring students is distinct from other tutors or teachers. Unlike most tutors or teachers, I do not repeat the same directions over and over and expect you to understand. I value being able to explain a concept in many different ways to help all students. I believe that every student can learn, and it is my job to help you learn. I am able to adapt to students who have learning disabilities and other learning types. I believe it is my job to help you learn material, and not just give you the answer. I want to bring out the strengths in students, and build up weaknesses. Distinct from other tutors, I do not only want to help you with a few problems, I want to aid in the learning of all material.
Most students believe, “they are not good at math,” but the reality is that an individual thinks that because a teacher or a figure of authority made them believe that. I want to erase those thoughts and bring confidence to a student that they can become a great student, and they are excellent at math. I believe it is part of my job to create confidence and comfortability in a student when it comes to mathematics.
