About David

I am an experienced learner and teacher. Not only have I completed undergraduate and graduate degrees, but I continue to be actively involved in the learning process, devoting several hours a week for my own personal study. I have taught elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as university and adult classes.

As a teacher, I believe in adjusting my teaching style to match my student's learning style for the most optimal learning results. I am also experienced in the use of a variety of technologies to enhance teaching. I think that technology can be a tremendous aid to learning.

I have experience tutoring in several different topics, including English, History and Hebrew. My background in European Intellectual History and other studies gives me a solid background for history, English, and philosophy.

My love of reading and writing makes me an excellent tutor. I generally read several books each month, blog several times each week, and regularly author newsletter columns. I am an experienced teacher who is able to use a number of methods to help students master the material.

I taught courses on World Religion for 5 years at West Virginia University. And as a rabbi, I have special expertise in Judaism. Serving as a chaplain, I have served a number of different individuals from a variety of faith backgrounds. As president of several different interfaith groups I also have practical insights into religious practices of a number of different faith communities.

Please contact me for more information so that we can schedule lessons at your convenience.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I received a 31 on the ACT when I took it. My background is in European Intellectual History, leading to me being extremely well read in modern literature and philosophy. Academically and professionally I have written extensively, from academic papers to essays, articles, and short stories. To those ends, I have had to draw regularly on my English background. I have also taught elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as teaching on the college level.

Geography

I have an undergraduate degree in history and have written a Master's thesis in American history. I am very interested in current events and read newspapers, magazines, blogs and other sites regularly. I have helped my own children with their social studies studies projects and homework.

Hebrew

I have taught Hebrew for twenty-five years.
I have experience in Biblical, Rabbinic and modern Hebrew. I regularly read classical texts in Biblical and Rabbinic Hebrew and news and current events in modern Hebrew.

Religion

I taught courses on World Religion for 5 years at West Virginia University. As a rabbi, I have special expertise in Judaism. Serving as a chaplain, I have served a number of different individuals from a variety of faith backgrounds. As president of several different interfaith groups I also have practical insights into religious practices of a number of different faith communities.
