I am a certified teacher with 10+ years tutoring one on one and small groups. I love teaching math and reading to elementary and middle school students. My teaching style includes creative real world connections in individualized lesson plans that meet students interests and academic needs. Also certified in front and back end web development and am willing to teach basic web design to beginners.
My previous experience includes being the operations manager for a Supplemental Educational Services Contractor under NCLB. Prior to that position I worked for an independent investment firm as a Vice President and Trust Officer and for a regional bank in the capacity of a Corporate and Personal Trust Administrator for a total of 15 years.
Working with students on grade level (or remedial) mathematics is a specialty area in which I have had measurable success. Helping students with math anxiety to gain confidence and greater understanding is the ultimate goal. Lessons are individualized to meet the students needs.
With the heart and mind of a lifelong learner, I find students strengths and weaknesses then plan lessons to incorporate the basic skills they have to increase their reading, writing and vocabulary abilities. Materials and lessons are guided readings, comprehension skills and extended reading of literature.
Summer slide can cause students to lose between 3 & 6 months of academic skills if not utilized when not in school. Contact me today to stay current and gain new skills over the summer. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
