I am a semi retired doctor of chiropractic, and currently an adjunct instructor at the community college. I have been instructing A & P, Biology for the past 12 years, as well as offering tutoring/study session to my students. The one thing I love about instructing A&P and tutoring is the confidence the students get as they learn the information, and the ability for the student to understand from a different perspective.
My patience is my strength when it comes to tutoring the information, which may be lacking in their current instructor, or unable to explain the information in a simpler format.
Students appreciate the time, patience, and clarity I bring when it comes to understanding the information. I encourage all my students to study outside the box in order to help them recall the information for testing. I give tips on study skills that helped me when I needed to learn the information when I was in college.
Studying skills in college is different than in high school. In college, the student learns on their own, but with organization, proper note taking and learning how to approach the textbook the way an instructor does, is a skill I can pass on to the student. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
