About Evan

Bio

I'm a full-time Chemistry, Physics, Math (Pre-Algebra through Calculus 2) and ACT/SAT tutor with over 10 years of experience working with high school and college students.

I received a dual Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Chemistry, with a minor in Mathematics, from Centre College.

I later worked as a graduate Physics teaching assistant (TA) at a local university for seven semesters, teaching 60 undergraduates at a time. In my second year I was promoted to a Supervising TA position,...

I'm a full-time Chemistry, Physics, Math (Pre-Algebra through Calculus 2) and ACT/SAT tutor with over 10 years of experience working with high school and college students.

I received a dual Bachelor’s degree in Physics and Chemistry, with a minor in Mathematics, from Centre College.

I later worked as a graduate Physics teaching assistant (TA) at a local university for seven semesters, teaching 60 undergraduates at a time. In my second year I was promoted to a Supervising TA position, managing 6 other TAs. I transitioned to tutoring full-time and have been doing so for the last several years.

While learning is often challenging by design, it should also be a positive and empowering experience. As part of my teaching philosophy, I don't just give students the answers - I ask questions to help guide them towards the solution using the given information and the key concepts they know. After students develop a strong foundation, I've found they have far greater confidence in their own abilities and don't find problems nearly as intimidating.

My primary goal is always to help you become as independent as possible. This includes designing lesson plans tailored to clients’ unique learning needs and providing copious amounts of practice problems for them to work through independently. We can make great strides during our sessions together, but I always expect my students to continue putting in the work on their own. The research shows that persistent effort is key to mastering any life skill – it’s how our brains work best!

I contacted Evan last minute to help my freshman in college son with his physics final exam. My son's grade dropped from an A to C and needs to do well on the final to maintain his scholarship. Evan responded swiftly and I appreciated his understanding and flexibility with with my schedule. Evan was thorough, knowledgeable and patient. I appreciated his advanced preparation by reviewing the material we sent ahead of time to maximize the tutoring session. My son commented on how he appreciated that Evan carefully read the problems because he missed some of the details. We initially scheduled an hour session but it was evident he needed more time and we were grateful that Evan was accommodating and understanding.
