Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I am a Middle School Reading teacher. I have taught ADHD students for 5 years. I differentiate assignments to help in order for them to succeed with their lessons. I also modify lessons to their learning styles, which eases their anxiety and gives them encouragement to do their best.

English

Middle School Language Arts teacher 2011 - present

Grammar

I teach Middle School Language Arts. I teach students to strengthen basic grammar and mechanic skills as they learn to write informational pieces and peer edit each others papers in order to help others become aware of, and learn how to correct grammar mistakes.

Literature

I am an avid reader, therefore I am familiar with more than a few authors and their writings, both classical and modern. I currently teach reading and comprehension skills to middle school students who are below grade readers using the Scholastic Read 180 program. I take great pride when I see them start to like to read and become grade level or above grade level readers.

Phonics

I have taught and am currently teaching Read 180, a scholastic reading program that teaches reading fluency, comprehension, grammar and phonics to struggling readers. It is a highly effective program of study and I have had struggling students in 6th grade become proficient readers in 8th grade.
