About Sarah

I really enjoy working with students and seeing them learn/grow over time. I especially love coming along a student who is struggling and figuring out a way to make the information "click". Every person does not learn the same; one size does not fit all when it comes to education. I am dedicated to finding what works for every student of mine, and helping them to be successful using the ways in which they learn best.

In May (2013) I received a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in reading and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). I have now taught fourth grade and first grade Montessori. My husband and I just moved to the Louisville area and I can't wait for the school year to begin!

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile :)
I hope to be in contact with you soon!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Sarah

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from an accredited college. I have taught fourth grade (all subjects) in an inter-city school in Detroit with over 50% of the student population functioning below grade-level. I have also taught first grade Montessori within a culturally diverse classroom.

Elementary Math

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from an accredited college. During my internship, I logged 510 hours at the school I was placed in.

Elementary Science

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from an accredited college. One of the classes I took in college was specifically for teaching me how to teach math and science in a way that is hands-on and concrete.

ESL/ESOL

In addition to my Bachelor's degree, I also have an endorsement for ESOL. I worked with ESOL students every semester in my Bachelor's program.

Phonics

In addition to my degree, I also earned an endorsement in reading. I have been trained extensively in helping children to be successful readers - part of that process is phonics.

Reading

I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) with an endorsement in reading, from an accredited college. I have successfully performed research based studies on students who were struggling readers. This data I have used to help students who are below grade-level to reach grade level expectations. I have also helped students who were already good readers, become better readers by challenging them through meaningful discussion and application.
