Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I am certified in Middle and High school math, and have over 12 years experience in the classroom. My greatest satisfaction comes from helping an individual gain an understanding of math concepts. I prefer to think of myself as someone who teaches people about math rather than as a math teacher.

Algebra 2

I really enjoy helping kids learn about all sorts of things, especially math. Algebra 2 lays the groundwork for higher level math such as calculus, statistics, and others. For anyone seeking a future in a technical field, a good grasp of the logic inherent in this subject is crucial. I have several years experience in the classroom, and my greatest satisfaction has always come from helping an individual get that tough topic that has been a struggle. I prefer to think of myself as someone who teaches people about math rather than as a math teacher.

Elementary Math

I am certified in Middle and High school math, and have over 12 years experience in the classroom. My greatest satisfaction comes from helping an individual gain an understanding of math concepts. I prefer to think of myself as someone who teaches people about math rather than as a math teacher.

Geometry

I am certified in High School and Middle School math, and have over 12 years of experience in the classroom. My greatest satisfaction comes from helping an individual gain an understanding of math concepts. I prefer to think of myself as someone who teaches people about math rather than as a math teacher.

Homeschool

I have been a certified teacher since 1994. During that time, I have assisted many students with mathematics, reading, and English. I have used homeschooling curricula such as MathUSee, among others to help many students understand and master the intricacies of of a variety of topics. My goal is always to enable students to become independent learners.

Linear Algebra

I am certified to teach math in grades 6 through 12, and have several years experience doing so. I have taught students matrix operations and their uses. I have also taught students about vectors and vector spaces. I have also used real-world problems such as optimizing production of several items simultaneously to make the topic more relevant to students.

Praxis

I passed the Praxis Exam on my first attempt several years ago when I chose teaching as a second career. In addition, I helped my daughter prepare for it just a few years ago, and she also passed on her first attempt. I have helped several people study for and be successful on a variety of standardized tests. I understand and can assist in the implementation of many test taking strategies.

Prealgebra

I am certified in Middle and High school math, and have over 12 years experience in the classroom. My greatest satisfaction comes from helping an individual gain an understanding of math concepts. I prefer to think of myself as someone who teaches people about math rather than as a math teacher.

Trigonometry

I have 12 plus years of classroom experience, and have taught high school math for the past 8 years. That has included everything from basic Algebra to Pre-Calculus. I really enjoy helping people become more confident and comfortable with all levels of mathematics.

Personable and inspiring

Rita helped my daughter's self-esteem tremendously. She went from feeling "dumb" about geometry to feeling empowered. Rita told her from the beginning that she could teach her to understand and that's just what she did. Rita is reliable and a caring and thoughtful person. I highly recommend her. 5 stars!!
