About Lisa

I love what I do! I'm an instructional coach with Jefferson County public schools, an award winning teacher with over 18 years experience in the education field. Teaching and seeing students succeed is my passion. I believe in capitalizing on the interests of the child, designing hand-on, engaging lessons, and creating lifelong students who love to learn. I am a reading and writing expert, love math and science, and know the Common Core Standards adopted by the state of Kentucky. I have worked in low-achieving schools, have motivated and taught students to improve test scores, grades and confidence. I would love to work with your child, and together, help him or her succeed! Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently certified to teach K-8 in the state of Kentucky. I have taught all grades K-5, and I have experience with middle school English (reading and writing) as well. I am highly qualified for K-8.

Phonics

I have extensive experience in teaching phonics to elementary students. I have been trained and taught a variety of programs including Making Words, Phonics They Use, and Phonics dance. Phonics is an integral part of reading instruction.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills to upper elementary and middle school students. I have instructed them in strategies, organization, and in the use of various websites to help them develop excellent study skills and habits, as well as ways to recall and retain information.
