Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

As a High School math teacher in Kentucky, I have experience teaching the new "Common Core" state standards for High School math. I was part of a team that helped see it through its transition phase from the old standards. In the process, I helped design and implement lessons that targeted specific standards. As a result, I gained a detailed understanding of what students are expected to know in school today.

Differential Equations

Differential Equations is an integral part of Calculus. I have a College Board certificate for teaching AP Calculus (AB) and have experience teaching it at the High School level. I took Calculus I, II, III, and Complex Analysis as an undergraduate in college. I also have a working knowledge of Maple and experience with the TI 83/84+ and N-Spire calculators.

Discrete Math

Discrete Math was one of my first math courses in college. As a math teacher, I taught Applied Math at the High School level, in which Graph theory and Combinatorics played a large role. I have published work online in many areas of Discrete Math. I have also written over 20 volumes of research in Discrete areas such as Arithmetic Functions, Number Theory, Partitions, and Unsolved Problems in Math.

Drawing

Drawing has always been a talent of mine. I honed my drawing skills in college, and finished a Bachelor's degree with a double major in drawing/painting and graphic/web design. While a student, I was an active member of the Industrial Design Club (where we drew up designs). I have taken numerous courses in drawing including: Basic Drawing I, Design Drawing I, Design Drawing II, Anatomy for Artists, Life Drawing II, Architectural Drawing, Illustration I, Illustration II. I have award winning artwork that includes the categories of Drawing, Life Drawing, and Digital Art. I have work related experience as well with drawing, including commercial art and drawing commissions.

Linear Algebra

I took Linear Algebra while I was an undergraduate in college. I have taught the beginnings of Linear Algebra as a High School math teacher (matrix algebra, systems of equations, systems of inequalities, linear programming, etc). I have used concepts from linear algebra and its connection to graph theory in my personal research. I also have experience working with matrices and linear algebra on the graphing calculator and with Maple.

Logic

Logic is the science of evaluating and classifying statement forms. I have a broad understanding of logic and its many branches: Symbolic logic (of language), Programming logic, and Mathematical logic (prepositions, quantifiers, proofs, etc.) I have taken many courses that have given me an appreciation for the foundations of logic including: Introduction to Logic, Computer Programming, Discrete Math, and Numbers and Proof. I have also taken many advanced math courses that involve more detailed methods of proof including Abstract Algebra, Modern Geometry, Calculus III, and Complex Analysis.

Painting

Painting is one of my best skills. I learned many techniques and concepts in college. While there, I double majored in Drawing & Painting and Graphic/Web Design. During my coursework, I had the opportunity to take many painting courses including: Painting I, Painting II, Aqueous Media, Mixed Media I, Advanced Painting I, Advanced Painting II, and Advanced Major Projects. I have won numerous awards for my painting, and have exhibited my work in Ann Arbor Michigan. While a student, I was an active member of the Art Students League. My work experience includes work as a production artist, a commercial artist, and commissioned paintings.

Praxis

I have a background in education and have taught at the High School and College level. I received a Master of Arts in Teaching with a major in Secondary Education. As a certified teacher, I had to prepare for many various teaching exams, including the Praxis PLT (Principles of Learning and Teaching). I have also passed four other Praxis subject area tests including: Math: Content Knowledge, Math: Models and Proof, Art: Art Making, and Art: Content Knowledge.

Public Speaking

Public Speaking is an integral part of being an educator. Being prepared is the key. I have several years of experience with public speaking. I have done everything from presentations and lectures to leading activities and team teaching.

Study Skills

Study skills are one of the things that I have promoted as a teacher, professor, and tutor. I have utilized many study strategies including: Reading Strategies, Mathematical Methods, and Study Team Strategies. I also studied this intensively while getting a Master of Arts degree in Secondary Education.

Web Design

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Graphic and Web Design from the University of Michigan. I am familiar with many of the web design technologies and languages that are critical for tying the elements together; such as Creative Suite, XHTML, and JavaScript. I also have experience as a web designer. Patrons include: Film Production Companies, High Schools, Fine Artists, and Promotional websites.

An amazing tutor! — Wesley has done the impossible! He helped me pull out a B on my midterm when, at the beginning of the semester, I was sure I was going to fail. He's has a great way of teaching Algebra so that I understand and makes it easy to follow along. Highly recommended! Thanks, Wesley. ...
