About Steven

I have fifteen years of experience teaching with Young Rembrandts (Kindergarten through 5th grade). I teach drawing with colored pencils and colored markers, and painting in water colors and acrylic. When finished with a drawing we will mat the picture.

I have been with Jefferson County Public Schools for three years.

I own my own business where I paint pictures of houses. I also do custom matting and framing.

I have 20 years of experience in video production, which includes electronic graphics at two local television stations.

Everyone can be an artist!

I look forward to helping my next student create a wonderful drawing!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

When working at Brown & Williamson Tobacco I used Photoshop daily. Photo Shop is used to manipulate photos and art work. There were many photographs that I removed the back grounds and and put the subject on a different back ground.

I used to work at several television stations. When working on photographs I would do stills or back grounds for different stories, that would be shown on the air. Most of the time the back grounds would be out of focus or a little blurry. There were many ways to do that.

You can add, subtract, color, surface, layers, mirror, and restore pictures that have been damaged and so on.

Photoshop is used by Graphicc Artist, Photographers, The Movie Industry.

Desktop Publishing

I went to school for desktop publishing at Ky Tech. (Jefferson State Vocational School). There I studied Adobe PageMaker, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
While working for Bargin Mart/Auto Trader for 5 years. I started as a Paste-Up Artist. I gained experience using the desk top publishing programs. I worked at Bargin Mart and Auto Trader I gained experience in the Darkroom developing film and processing pictures.
I worked for Brown & Williamson Tobacco for 4 years. There I gained more experience using my desktop publishing programs. There I picked up the programs Word and Illustrator. I designed business cards, mailing samples, forums, book covers, table tents, and invitations.

Drawing

I start off drawing with pencil. Most drawings start off with basic shapes. Squares, rectangles, circles, ovals and other shapes. Then the Artist will use his artistic ability to take basic shapes and manipulate into subjects and a nice composition.

Then we will need to add a little color to our art work. We will learn the color wheel. Learn to mix our colors from the color wheel We will work with colored pencils and color markers.

Macintosh

While at Brown & Williamson Tobacco I worked on Macintosh Computers and trained other graphic artists. I trained to create graphics in Page Maker, Photo Shop, Illustrator and Free Hand.

Painting

Every one can learn to draw and paint. Imagination plus talent plus skills. Everyone has talent! With a little imagination the skills can be taught.

I have always liked to paint. I started off with the paint by numbers paintings. Not long after that I would draw my own pictures. I wanted to paint my own subjects and I liked mixing my own colors.

I like teaching composition, the color wheel,
mixing colors, prospective, brush strokes with the different types of brushes. I like painting in water color and a acrylic.

Now I have a business painting pictures of peoples house's. I take pictures of the house. I start off with a rough drawing. I like painting with water color paint. But not a water color style, more like acrylic or oil. Sometimes I like to mix a little pen and ink in my pictures.
I think of these as architectural paintings.

I like painting gourdes as my hobby. I usually paint them with acrylic paint.

Photography

I worked at Auto Trader in the dark room. I developed black and white film, and printed black and white pictures. I screened them to be printed.

When I worked at Brown Williamson Tobacco I took many pictures for the print shop.
I would use graphic software to print, edit, save, restore. My pictures would be used for publication in many various ways.

I worked as a wedding photographer. I have photographed about 30 weddings. I have posed many brides and grooms for their big day. I would take the orders for the prints and many enlargements that followed.

I can teach 35 mm photography as well as digital. I know photo shop, print master, and different desktop publishing.

My son loves his art lessons with Steve

My son has had two lessons so far with Steve. He loves it! My son wants to draw super heroes, so Steve has used that to keep him engaged while teaching some shading techniques. My son is excited after his lessons, and sits and continues to draw for an hour or two, after each lesson. Very pleased so far!
