Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I have extensive business experience as an executive, running a $60 million company with responsibility for 300 people. I have also started two companies from scratch. I have taught business concepts to others and helped them start their own companies as well.

C

I'm approved for C++ programming on this site, which is essentially an extension of C. Before I learned C++, I had to learn C. I use C to program home automation applications and IoT devices.

C++

I have a computer science degree from Dartmouth College. I currently code projects in C and C++ for Arduino and Raspberry Pi applications with robotics both as a hobby and a part-time job. I have tutored two groups of adult students learning C++ for the first time, without any exposure to programming previously.

Computer Programming

I have a computer science degree from Dartmouth College. I am already approved for C++ programming and will seek approval for other programming languages. I am an experienced programmer and developer and have taught programming classes to adult students.

Drums

I have been playing the drums for more than 30 years. I'm in two bands currently and we play out just about every weekend. I've given drum lessons to more than 20 students over the years and have a place students can come for lessons.

General Computer

I got my first computer as a Christmas present in 1979. It was a Radio Shack TRS-80 (the first model). Ever since then I have been involved with computers, both hardware and software.

I typically build my own PC's and I have also built and maintain a number of Internet web servers. I also build software, programs in the past, generally websites today.

When a friend or family member has a problem with their PC, or they want to buy something new, I am the person they call to get advice.

JavaScript

I am an experienced Web developer with JavaScript, including jQuery and node.js (server-side JavaScript). I have developed browser extensions, have contributed to open source projects and have developed applications that use JavaScript. I also have a computer science degree from Dartmouth College and I'm approved for C++ programming here.

PHP

I have been developing applications with PHP for more than 10 years. I have created commercial systems, and contributed to open source projects. I also have a computer science degree from Dartmouth College and I'm approved for C++ programming here.

Python

I current develop applications using Python and I have taught a Python class to beginning students without any knowledge of programming. I have a computer science degree from Dartmouth College and I'm certified in C++ programming on this site already.

Web Design

My web design experience ranges from being the high level sponsor of a website to establish overall goals and objectives, to providing direction to others on content and flow, to coding and implementing websites using HTML, PHP and Javascript in combination with a SQL database.

I have designed and implemented a wide variety of sites. Some were primarily knowledge or content-based, others were e-commerce sales sites, others were more community or personal pages. I currently maintain my own web servers and most of the sites reside on these servers.
