About Sophie

Hello! I am a recent graduate of the University of Dallas with a bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in political philosophy. I have worked as an after-school teacher/tutor at a charter school for grades 1-2 (but I am not a certified elementary school teacher), as well as tutoring my siblings essay writing, English, and grammar grades 5 through 10.
With my English degree, I am qualified to tutor/teach high school English and I took AP/Adv English for Junior and Senior year in High School so I have experience with the literature.
Working one-on-one and giving my students confidence to succeed is what I love about tutoring and teaching as well as sharing the love for literature and the English language.

I am truly passionate about reading and delving into the great works. I took AP/Adv English in High School and I am recently out of college, so everything is still fresh in my mind.

I would love to get to know you and hopefully share my love of English and literature in a way that helps you to succeed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I have completed a Bachelors in English. I edited and worked collaboratively on papers throughout high school and college.

Literature

I am a recent graduate from the University of Dallas with a degree in English.
The program is very heavy in reading primary sources of Literature and I have read >95% of the assigned literature. This includes Ancient Epics (Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, etc.), Christian Epics (The Divine Comedy Sequence, Paradise Lost, etc.), Tragedy and Comedy (Sophocles, Aeschylus, Shakespeare, etc), and the novel (Moby-Dick, Mansfield Park, Crime and Punishment, etc.) among required electives and specialties (modern Irish literature, Faulkner, Medieval Literature, Early Modern, 20th century, etc.)
