About Steven

I am currently a second year student at the University of Kentucky studying computer science. I have a strong academic background providing me with a full scholarship to complete my studies. I graduated from high school with a 4.00+ GPA.

I have a strong math background, as I have completed courses through Calculus 3 in college and high school environments. I also received a 35 in English and reading on the ACT on multiple occasions and have tutored both math and English subjects frequently during high school.

I had a 29 math ACT score, successful completion of high school math courses with an A through Calculus 2, including all algebra and geometry courses.

I am an enthusiastic and relatable tutor that can help make a student learn to enjoy math and successfully break down abstract topics.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored English and reading for the past 4 years to students aged kindergarten through all of elementary school, as well as taught math to many different age groups from basically elementary math all the way to calculus. I have also aided directly in elementary school classrooms for multiple hours a week for the past 5 years. I have worked with kids my whole life and can effectively teach them in all core areas.

Prealgebra

I have completed mathematics coursework through calculus 3 with much success. I have tutored this subject through a tutoring program known as Whiz Kids for the past 4 years, and can tackle subjects from a new perspective to help learning.

Public Speaking

I have completed college level courses in speaking while at the University of Kentucky. I also have spoken to large audiences on multiple occasions as Regional Treasurer for the Future Business Leaders of America program, including to a crowd of over 5000 students and my entire graduating class of 400 that I knew well. I have competed on a national level in multiple speaking events for the program and won state 3 times in such events. I have given numerous business presentations in my internship experience as well.

Python

Completion of CS 115 course at the University of Kentucky covering a strong working knowledge of the language. I have completed over 50 working programs and have entered python code into multiple coding competitions. I also have a strong background in similar object-oriented languages such as Java, C# and C++.

Study Skills

I have completed high school with a GPA higher than a 4.0 while taking 7 AP courses and studying for their exams, as well as numerous honors classes. I have also completed college courses of a similar calibre such as English, multiple Computer Science courses, Calculus 1-3, etc. I have also mastered studying for topics on my own, such as web development and multiple programming languages including Java, C++, and JavaScript. I also tutored an elementary school program teaching students how to read and study for middle and high school.

Web Design

I have completed two web development internships using HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript libraries to create a variety of webpages. I have extensive knowledge of bootstrap and other front end frameworks, with a working knowledge of JQuery. I am also the web development chair for the University of Kentucky's engineering fraternity, Triangle Fraternity. I have worked on numerous projects including mobile first and responsive projects. I have also used material design among other design languages in my work.
