About Jacquelyn

My love of teaching comes from a love of learning and a deep curiosity about human cognition. Since I began studying linguistics in 2011, I've been working to understand how the neural processes of memory, attention and learning contribute to the organizational properties of human communication. The satisfaction I get from teaching is therefore multi-fold: alongside the sense of fulfillment that comes from helping someone build lifelong communication skills, I also get to enjoy the process of discovering first-hand how different people learn best.

I graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a BA and MA in Linguistics in December 2015. While at CU, I also earned a graduate certificate in Cognitive Science, an interdisciplinary field that allowed me to gain experience in psychology, neuroscience, computer science, and philosophy. After graduation, I spent the remainder of the ski season pursuing my childhood dream (and bucket list item) of being a hard-core ski bum in Vail, CO, before moving to Lexington early this summer. I am now assisting with research in a memory lab at the University of Louisville while I prepare for graduate school next year.

Studying Linguistics provided me with a unique perspective on the English language, not only through an intimate knowledge of English grammar, but also through an analytic knowledge of the structure of English discourse. Along with experience writing for multiple academic fields, this knowledge yields valuable practical skills in the art of communication. I'm eager to help others acquire these skills in every step in the writing process, from organizing research to structuring a paper to proofing for grammar and style.

I am generally available every day from 9 am to 9 pm, and I'm always happy to travel to you or meet online. I charge a flat rate of $40/hr.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Proofreading

A Master's degree in Linguistics helped me gain detailed knowledge of English grammar.
A Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Science helped me learn preferred writing styles and conventions for a wide variety of academic fields.

Jacquelyn is a also working on confidence in the ability to achieve Monet's goal of obtaining grades that she can be proud of.
