About Amber

I am currently serving as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Kentucky (UK) in Lexington, Kentucky while pursuing my M.S. in Physics. Every semester I teach an undergraduate physics I and II laboratory course. Alongside my graduate student duties I am a physics and mathematics tutor for the Center for Academic Resources and Enrichment Services at UK. Before attending UK I tutored for the Tutorial and Academic Enhancement Center (TAEC) at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana for four years; while completing my B.S. in Mathematics. At the TAEC, I tutored math courses up to linear algebra and physics I and II. At the end of my four years there I received my CRLA Master Tutor certification. During the summer months I work as a Child-Care Provider and Teacher for children 2-4 years old for the Mother's Day Out Program at First Arcadia Baptist Church, in Santa Fe, Texas. In addition to my many tutoring and teaching positions I have served as a private tutor from 2011-2016.

Outside of school I enjoy various outdoor activities such as the following: hiking, biking, rock climbing, and sports. During my undergraduate career I played Division I NCAA Women's Soccer for Nicholls. I am now searching for semi-professional soccer opportunities while I continue to play competitively for various adult teams. I also enjoy spending time with my family in Texas and taking part in various church activities.

I am enthusiastic about tutoring and learning.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have worked with students in many different settings: tutoring centers, schools, childcare centers, and through soccer camps! I recently received my B.S. in Mathematics. My tutoring experience includes working for two university level tutorial centers, receiving my CRLA tutoring certification, and tutoring online for Chegg. Inc. In all settings I frequently tutored Algebra 1.

Astronomy

I am now working toward my M.S in Physics and PhD in AstroPhysics. I frequently tutored Astronomy.

Oboe

I have played the oboe for over 13 years. Starting in the 6th grade I was first chair and held this position until high school. In high school I was awarded 5 Division I Soloist ratings and 1 Division 1 Flute Oboe Clarinet Trio rating at our regional competitions. My trio traveled to the state competition after receiving a Division I rating at our area competition.
While a member of my high school's varsity band, I also held a few leadership positions. These included being the Front Ensemble Section Leader my sophomore year, and Head Drum Major my junior and senior year.
I was also awarded a Band Booster Scholarship at the end of my high school career.

Soccer

I have played soccer for 18 years. Within those 18 years, I was apart of my high school's Varsity soccer team, my clubs National Premiere League team and Olympic Development team. I was recruited to play NCAA Division I women's soccer at Nicholls State University, where I broke the record for minutes played in a single season. During my time at Nicholls I had the opportunity to coach for the VooDoo Soccer Academy, where my teammates and I coached kids of different age groups after school. I also had the opportunity to give private lessons during the summer.
