As an experienced teacher who has worked in Japan, Brazil and China, I am comfortable with students to whom English is a second language. I know elementary curriculum and have taught art, art history, history and language through college level. Education should be challenging, rigorous and enjoyable-elements that I include in all my lessons. Learning is also a creative act; my lessons include elements that make education fun and rewarding.
I earned a teaching credential, valid for life, in Art and Humanities. I have taught all elementary grades, and high school and college. From this, I understand how important it is for students to be confident in expressing themselves accurately and creatively. I also know how important it is for students to be able to perform in a testing situation to correctly reflect their ability. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
