I get as much satisfaction from my students' understanding and success as they do. Working one-on-one with my students allows me to find individualized ways to help them learn the material and develop those skills that build their confidence. Our tutoring sessions are positive and collaborative experiences. When they succeed, we both celebrate.

If you need a feedback on a college application essay or a coach for college writing, I can help. If you need to build content skills and strategies to excel on the SAT or ACT, I can help. If you need to improve your skills in analyzing literature, I can help. Whether you are working on daily English assignments and expectations in your middle school, high school, or college classroom, I can help. I have over 15 years of teaching experience as well as three years of tutoring experience in a university writing center where I was professionally certified as a tutor; in addition, I have three years of private tutoring experience with over 750 hours logged on Wyzant alone. In teaching, I have been consistently rated as "Highly Effective," and I am professionally certified to teach in both Kentucky and Michigan.

My experience teaching first-year composition courses at college has helped me to transition my high school students successfully into post-secondary education. They often return from college and tell me that the work we did in the classroom was exactly what they needed when they transferred into college and even into graduate school. Because of my experience in grade levels seven through twelve and first-year college composition, my knowledge provides my students with an excellent vertical alignment.

Let me show you how to build the skills and confidence to succeed in your educational goals. My hourly session fee covers not only our contact time but the research, planning, and brief interactions between our weekly sessions as well.

My degrees and certifications include:
-M. A. in English Language and Literature - Composition and Rhetoric
-M. A. in English Language and Literature - British Literature
-Advanced Placement Certification - AP English Language and Composition
-Strategic Instruction Model (SIM) coach.
-CRLA Tutor Certification

I love working with my students one-on-one, and I can help you to build stronger skills and see the connections as you grow in confidence. My fee is $65/hour, and I give a discount for regularly scheduled and completed sessions after the first four. Let's set-up a time to meet and get started on your goals.

Grammar,

Grammar

As a consistently rated "Highly Effective" high school English teacher, I found and developed a wide variety of learning tasks to help my students learn according to their various learning styles and strengths. Beyond identifying and correctly using elements and mechanics of grammar, my students learned to apply what they had studied as they discussed other writers' intentions and then polished their own writing. I was the local grammar source at our high school for students and colleagues.

Proofreading

You know that person that you always ask to look over a resume, letter of application, or other crucial document that you have written? I am that person to my friend and colleagues. I do my best to help students understand how a carefully-worded, structured, and edited document elevates their writing and raises their opportunities as they pursue academic and career goals. An undergraduate college course in pedagogic grammar pushed me to understand grammar. Two master's degrees in English reinforced and built up my skills. My time teaching helped me to build a variety of methods and lessons to help teach my students how to understand and apply grammar effectively in their verbal and written communications.

Very helpful and hard-working

She helped review my essays and gave me some very helpful feedback. She went overtime to finish reviewing my paper. I learned a lot from her. She helped improve my writing a lot and even looked at my essay outside of the lesson after I had made revisions. She is an excellent tutor and is very fun to work with.

AMAZING TUTOR!

Linda is the best tutor to have for grammer! I was so nervous and scared of not passing and she made sure to walk me through each and every step with me to make sure I was doing everything right. She is so sweet and she made me laugh. She means business but does it in such a fun way! I am glad I came on this site and found her! Thanks Linda!!!! :D

Tutor responded:

Thank you, Tatiana! It was a real joy to work with you on such an intense and challenging project. You worked hard and asked questions that helped me to help you. We conquered that task as a team. Thank you for asking me along on your academic quest.

Linda was a great motivator for my teen

I am a teacher, but my son fought me tooth and nail with ACT prep. Linda was willing to try working with him, and my son took a liking to her the first day. I wasn't planning to set up another session until I spoke with him, but he did it on his own. Linda took the time to review his SPECIFIC strengths and weaknesses, and work with him on just the areas with which he needed help. My son has taken the ACT before, and his goal to increase by 1 point for a higher level of merit scholarship. At the time of this writing, I don't know if he will get that one extra point or not.... what I do know is that he is more confident about walking into the test tomorrow. That alone is worth every penny!

Mary, 4 lessons with Linda
Tutor responded:

Thank you, Mary. As a mom and teacher, myself, I know what you are talking about. I am so glad that I was able to help. I really enjoyed working with your son; he is bright and kind. He thinks about what he knows and can articulate what he needs to master. It has been a pleasure to help him with his goal. Linda

Great teacher

She was really helpful in adding new strategies to improve my score. I really hope that I will get the hang of the strategies that you incorporate for me to improve my overall scores.

Very patient and competent tutor!!!

Linda is my daughter's English tutor! She is helping my daughter with her essay and so far she has done a great job! She is showing her different writing techniques, how to put her essay into context and how to perfect her work cited page. So far Linda has not disappointed us! We will continue to use her throughout the summer and also when my daughter is back at school!
