About Jibby

Currently, I am an Assistant Principal in a K-12 school for students with intellectual disabilities. I have taught for 20 years as a special educator focused on teaching students how to read. I miss teaching and helping students, and that is why I applied for this tutoring position. I love to teach students how to read. It is my passion.

There is a difference between learning how to read and reading to learn. Additionally, there is a great difference between reading fiction and non-fiction as well as which strategies are to be used. Reading is not hard if you have the right tools (strategies and knowledge). I know how to make reading fun, and I have never had a student who failed. Reading difficulties are generally gaps in knowledge and/or skills. Reading is about engaging with the text and making sense of it through hands-on activities and using visual tools.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
