I taught public middle school language arts/ English for 6 years. I decided to stay home when I had my first child. When both of my children became school age I went back to work part time as a Title 1 teacher in a private school. There, I have mainly worked with elementary age students in reading, spelling, writing, and math.
I am a published author and have had photographs published in the same magazine. However, the magazine is out of circulation now.
I am a graduate of the Morehead State University Writing Project, which is part of the National Writing Project. I taught public middle school language arts/ English for 6 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught public middle school for 6 years. Within those six years I have taught several students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. I understand many strategies and methods that are needed to approach these students when learning. I have also completed a class at Grand Canyon University on Autism Methods and Practices. I use my autism methods and practices everyday: I have a nine year old son who is on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. I would say I am more than qualified to tutor children who have Autism Spectrum Disorder.
I tutored a student at my current school using the Sara Barton method for Dyslexia. It is an entire program the student needs to go through. I do not own the program, as it is quite expensive. I only know how to teach the program.
