Over the course of my life, education has been a key influence. Having the ability to learn and grasp the concepts myself was part of the venture but also learning how to teach others was the tricky part. I have been under the belief that you have only truly learned a subject if you can teach it to someone else. I've been working with students in K-12 and post-secondary over the past 15 years. The most recent work I've had is with working with GED, T.O.E.F.L., and ESL students over the past 2 years. It has been a truly enriching experience.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a dual degree in Computer Information Technology and Information Technology. I served as President of the Computer Club and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. I was also the teacher's assistant while attending Sullivan University. If your child is anything like me, sometimes the traditional methods of learning aren't always best suited, so I take a more personalized approach to education. I try to find something your child is interested in and use that to relay the information in a format that is comprehensible and memorable to your child.

I do specialize in the mathematics. From learning vocabulary words to solving quadratic equations, the key to understanding is to make the information yours and to make it fun. Learning can and is fun and I try to bring that fun to the table... not to boggle your child down with non-sense, but to let him or her become familiar and comfortable with the information in a context in which they already clearly preserve things. For instance, if your child likes basketball, I will use that to teach addition, multiplication, counting in groups, etc.

Everyone's time is valuable, so there is 24-hour cancellation notice. You will not be billed for that lesson. Also if the child simply needs to reschedule because of a time conflict, that can easily be arranged.

I do offer to tutor your child where is best suited for your child to learn. If there are many distractions at home, then the public library may be an option. I am more than happy to come to you and your child.

I look forward to making learning fun, helping to lay the foundation and help to create superb study skills and habits to last into the future.

I had an internship at Maybury Elementary in Columbus, Ohio where I assisted the teacher in tutoring children who did not catch on to the concepts being taught. The child and I would have a 1-on-1 session to re-emphasize the lessons taught so the child will not fall behind. Once moving to Frankfort, I began to tutor children independently of the school systems from the request of other parents I know who say their child is struggling. I make the lessons something the child can already relate to, therefore making it more tangible and less forgettable. I use all resources available including computer games that teach. It is important for the child to understand that learning can be fun.

I have taught and tutored on a variety of levels from elementary, middle, high school, and college. I have been a T.A. (teacher's assistant) in college algebra, pre-calculus, and visual basic programming (c#). I also tutored students in all math subjects up to and including calculus, computer programming, philosophy, anthropology, business management, and accounting for the past eight years between Kentucky State University, Sullivan University, Trident University, and University of Louisville. In the most recent years (2011-2013) I had been helping young adults receive their GEDs by tutoring and/or teaching reading comprehension, writing techniques, creating outlines for organizational purposes, note taking, the art of underlining important information, and creating songs or sayings to aid in recall.

I taught GED preparation from '11-'13 in Lexington, KY and Frankfort, KY for Bluegrass Literacy, a non-profit organization. Using different types of tools such as flash cards, computer models and games, items from the Parent-Teacher Store in order to visualize mathematical problems. We use word association, common words used, learning how to infer a definition by using context clues. I use practice test, library resources, and anything I can to help you learn.

Extremely helpful, cool and knowledgeable.

Kelvin took my 7th grader from completely lost in Algebra I to confident and solving problems she missed earlier with ease. Can't remember the last time my daughter felt this good about Math.

Highly Recommended!

Kelvin is an amazing tutor! He was very patient and descriptive in response to my questions. He seemed very knowledgeable of the material and was easily able to convert it into a real world situation which allowed me to grasp its concept!
